Hi everyone,

Please click this link to enter the contest to win a laser of your choice = http://laserpointerforums.com/f56/win-laser-forum-donations-fundraiser-contest-95194.html

Good Luck :)

This is my very first thread - so excited :) and I think it is for a darn good cause, member donations.
I have noticed that the donation goal is being repeatedly missed by a large amount so I want to donate a mint condition laser to help generate donations to the forum. I have a range of hand held lasers from 5mW to 2500mW in 405nm, 445nm, 532nm and 650nm so I would like to do this in 2 parts.

> First - what color and power range do you think will be best suited for this?

Once that is decided, I am more than willing if need be to ship it to a trusted member in the USA who has a LPM who can post picture(s) of it showing that it is a good laser, beam quality and the power output.
I will also pay that member for their time and effort and shipping to the winner also.
Then I will need help from the likes of c0ldshadow, arg, 2007 revolution, things, daguin, spyorocks, phoenix77, ped, shadowvale, ears and eggs to decide on the price per donation entry, age requirement and all those sort of things.

Please reply with your suggestions. Thanks guys!!

Re: Willing to give a laser to raffle for forum donations

I think this would be a great idea! There used to be quite a few r@ffles and give aways here, but not lately.
Just a heads up, you are not supposed to use the R word, when discussing these donations and giveaways. I guess it sounds too much like gambling.

Anything you want to donate would work; everybody these days seems to want a "green" laser, especially the new members. :D

If you do this, I will donate a 50mw 532nm el-chepo 8 dollar China made laser pointer too, but it won't have a 18650 battery in it, they will have to get their own. It will be selected out of several I own for the best stability I can find in my collection of that model.

Wait what do you mean "this is my first post"? It appears you have 345, also this is actually a good idea...

^I think she means her first thread joey ;)

I also think this is a great idea, and should be done more often on the forums to promote a healthier community!

Be good if you can ship world wide in parts (diode lens module separate to host) if need be ?? Would that be the case?

Re: Willing to give a laser to raffle for forum donations

Great idea, I will definitely get in on this once the details are ironed out. Thanks for the fantastic idea, this should be a boon to our community, and by extension, the hobby as a whole. One thought, if anyone has appropriate laser safety glasses to go with the chosen laser, would be great to include in the package. That way, especially if it goes to a new/inexperienced member, we are promoting safety along with growing knowledge of the hobby. And as for what laser, idk, maybe try to strike a balance between one that is on the safer side for a newbie, but still interesting enough to interest a vet? BowtieGuy mentioned a green above, that might be good due to the high visibility, but really might want those glasses then, in case of IR.

LaserChick, I noticed that you were trying to edit your thread title; you can change it by going into "edit", and then "go advanced", this will allow you to change your title. :)

Good catch VanillahGorilla, I forgot to mention that I will include correct safety goggles for the wavelength, 18650 battery and charger dependent on what laser is decided on.
You are so right as safety is paramount.

@ BowtieGuy Thank you kind sir for saving my butt twice in one day :)

I'll put in a dilda hardly ever used.

Jander that's very generous of you to donate a laser again. Please do the winner a favor and include a note stating what size battery it takes. Remember these two you donated early this year: http://laserpointerforums.com/f57/help-vortish-winners-posted-92184-7.html I have the black one and have never figured out what size battery to use. When I compare to a 26650 (too big around) or an 18650 (way too long) it seems like it should be something in the range of 23450 or so.

Hey Pi, could they be 25500 size batteries that you need? I use that size for one of my builds that originally required "C" cells.

It could be, but it sounds like it might not quite fit but maybe, I don't have a way to measure the interior size of the host.

Sorry to take us off topic. Laser Chick, I suggest $1 per entry, hopefully that would encourage more to participate.

Alan
