Sorry for offtopic but with post I only mean to help you:
According to traceroute the server is located in hosting company called firehost.com, so I've checked their offer at Configure Your Secure Server | FireHost and to my knowledge you are wasting a lot of money for nothing (unless I'm missing something), out there you can find much more interesting offers to host this forum at your own dedicated server - trust me, I own several dedicated servers by myself.

With more data like monthly quote (bandwidth) and CPU usage of www server you are currently using (apache, nginx whatever) maybe I would be able to provide more interesting offers so in the end end people wouldn't have to donate so much money.

"You can earn the forum 3 months of free hosting if you purchase for a Web hosting plan at IceStorm.com and put laserpointerforums.com in the referral box while signing up. I use IceStorm to host laserpointerforums.com. I wrote two testimonials for Icestorm."

This made me a little confused, can you explain exactly where the forum is hosted and why do you require 240$ monthly?

Anyway - I've donated 10$ as well, hope you don't mind the low amount :(

Nobody should really divulge how much their donating, its considered bad taste and demeans people who cant donate as much.

Well demeaning certainly wasn't among any of my intentions. DJNY and I posted the screenshot to prove my end of the bargain in his donation auction.

$1 or $100, I myself wouldn't feel bad because I think everyone is encouraged to donate what they can afford to give and nothing more.

Ped, it was an auction, so the end price was on the open site.

Every $1 donation here is well spent!!

I wasnt having a go, I'm just saying this has been discussed before and we had person A in the past almost apologising for only donating $xx when person B donated $xxx

EDIT, DJNY just seen your reply , I wasnt really referring to you (both of you)

Looking at the previous pages quite a lot people made their donation officially. Also in the donation list we can see most of the donators.

IMO everyone should be able to feel free how much he donated. Guess most of the time it´s more like a motivation for others.

But as this has been discussed and set before, I´m going to adhere to the rules in the future

Yeah I know what your saying.

But I say again, we've had it in the past where people were almost apologizing for only donating $xx , when as has already been said, any amount is welcome.

Its when person B comes along and says "heyy I donated $xxx " ect, makes everyone else feel their donation was inadequate.

thanks for the support, everyone

the icestorm thing is very old (i need to delete it). i was using them for hosting several years back and never removed that ( i just updated http://laserpointerforums.com/donations.htm )

although firehost is high cost, it is very high quality and you get what u pay for in hosting. the security is extremely good (they have helped stopped various severe ddos attacks which would have crippled the site at other cheap hosts). the web application firewall is also a major plus (most other hosting companies dont have this).

having firehost helps me sleep better knowing the site is protected and two sets of eyes are watching the data (myself and security experts at firehost)
