OK, I just couldn't take it being without. I'm starting another group buy for the Violet laser modules. Same ones as in the above thread.

Now's your chance for those that missed it. (like me)

target is 40 units spread over LPF, CPF, and PL.

should be easy!

So what's so cool about violet 405nm you ask? good question! for one, it's a beautiful color. No one else on your block or in your meeting will have a violet pointer. Secondly, it causes materials to fluoresce like a blacklight. Finally, look up how much a 10mW blue laser will cost you (hundreds).

The laser unit:

violet.jpg

inside the apparatus are some very useful and worthwhile optics besides the 5.6mm violet/red laser diode combo (which is easy to remove):

1 Small (3.5mm wide) cube beamsplitter Dichroic and polarised, reflects Violet
1 Large (4mm wide) cube beam splitter Dichroic and polarised, reflects Red and IR
2 small transmission diffraction gratings.
1 Variable focus servo unit and Lens.
LCD polarization rotator / beam shaper.
1 Doublet lens
1 Turning mirror (8mm square) coated for 405nm, 650nm, 780nm
1 Quarter wave plate
Lens assembly

The disk read lenses, and servos. The Lens is very special, and comprises of what appears to be a zone plate, and a very high numerical aperture objective, with a very unique shape, and extremely short focal length!

You can use the beam splitters and mirrors to combine red green and violet beams.

I will be using google checkout this time.

Shipping is $5 priority mail $14 internationally.

Our goal is 40 modules. Check around. You won't find a price close to this good anywhere else. The optics themselves are worth $10-15.

If you like, I can include a glass lens focusing kit for $7 ea. It includes a holder and an adjustable double-element glass lens.

Info on the regulator kits:

The LM317 circuit will have slow-start capacitor, current regulator with to-220 package, heat sink, two current ranges for adjustment: current adjustable from 20-80mA for this diode, to about 500mA for other diodes. With an included resistor change the current range can be changed. Will come with a protoboard, resistors, pot, and instructions.

DDL, if you can get the price lower, that's what everyone's gonna go for! :p but drlava, could you include one or two of the digikey 38-1009-ND drivers if i paid for them? shipping to AUS is REAL expensive.

I am setting up checkout soon. I'll let you know ship date is when orders are full. There is a cutoff of 25 days for this GB.

Hey, sorry, I took that as 'might' and didn't want to wait. Plus, I wanted to bring this to my CPF and PL peeps.
Did you really WANT to do all that work again? ;)

I probably could is there is enouh interest. Digikey has a minimum $25 order below which there is a $5 service fee.

Hmm, that would be fine, but looking here:
http://dkc3.digikey.com/PDF/T073/P2298.pdf
top-right it looks like it's not compatible with the common cathode layout of the laser here:
http://www.fineartradiography.com/hobbies/lasers/blu-ray/index.html

Is there a mistake?

Re: Group Buy #2 Violet laser modules $27 target

you don't 'need' google checkout. it's nothing special. just pay as if it were paypal

but I can take paypal if you pay the paypal fee. PM me if that's what you want.

There is a whole thread about using this driver for blurays. Try this post.

With the testing that I have done already... I can report as follows...

1. The controller is GO!
2. I noticed a rather quick ramp up in power when starting the diode.
3. IT IS SMALL!!! AND HARD TO SOLDER TO... :(
4. The little pot on there is extremely sensitive...
5. Very nice control and doesn't heat up as much as I suspected.
6. I have ramped it up to 160mA, didn't need to go any further, and as such that is where I stopped. It seems to warm up at such high drive power though... :-/
7. I like it, and trust it with driving a BluRay diode, and that is what I got it for ;) :D
