if you can get them for .44 each, and there's no assembly required, i'm down for 100.
Of course there will be assembly, otherwise you would get a box off 100 dead batteries taped to leds'. It takes about 5 seconds to assemble a throwie :)

No assembly required. I have my own throwie mod... simple piece of paper between one LED leg and the battery. Rip and throw.

BTW: I know about http://www.hebeiltd.com.cn/?p=throwies but I wanted to look into other sources. If we can get 500 lined up I'd be happy to go there and save ten cents each!

100pk of coin cells: $3.30 - http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.61
20pk of magnets: $1.63 - http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.4248
20pk (red) leds: $2.35 - http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.11100

batteries are 1.5v, so 100 will make you 50 throwies.. so... $3.30 + (1.63*2) + (2.35*2) = $11.26 for 40 throwies at a cost of 28 cents each.
With DX you're limited to red green or yellow, but there *are* better deals on leds out there... mind you, if you buy more than three of any of these, the price drops significantly.

Those batteries are far too chunky... and you can get 100 of any colour 10mm LEDs for $15 shipped elsewhere. I _could_ pay twice the price and get everytihng from dealextreme, but there are some batteries and magnets that work and some that don't. I've been building throwies for long enough to know which are which.

By the way... you need 10 mil LEDs.

So as it stands. The prices are $0.45 for 400 and if we can make 500, $0.34 each (adding a cent or so each offsets postage costs). Hell if we make 400 I'll pay for another hundred myself.

Sounds like I need to start a GB thread... there seems to be enough interest. Will do shortly.

Know what... the hebeiltd site doesn't include magnets. Once I add magnets the price is actually worse than my previous price.

So it turns out the price is $0.45 each (the extra cent helps cover postage to me). I will post a GB thread and also look into better magnet pricing. I'm working with the dealextreme 18 by 2mm ones at $0.13 each at quantity 200. If anyone can get magnets of similar diameter at least 2mm thick cheaper than this please post.
So $45 per 100.

Also I changed my mind about assembly... I am NOT assembling 500 throwies. :p

All it needs is to tape everything together. Easy as.

More like I'd rather not get RSI (repetitive strain injury) or carpal tunnel.

Update / edit: In direct contradiction to my above post... the price is actually a little better if we get at least 1000. For 500 it's one cent more. So I'll go ahead and post a GB thread. I'll ask for this to be locked and all business conducted in this thread.
