Default Re: *** SECOND LPM GB *** Laser Power Meter $160

Thanks Daedal I picked my meter up from the post office yesterday.

I am not sure if you tested each one but I think mine is off on the readings (unless I am doing something wrong).

First I tested my DX 30mw green and it measured 15mw. Not surprised here. Then I tested my Alpha 105. I held the meter upright and placed the ND on the sensor. I then held my Alpha 105 about 2 inches from the ND and turned it on. The meter measures 167mw? Nova said on the box it measured 119mw so I am not sure what is going on.

Either I got lucky on the laser (I doubt it0 or the meter is reading 50mw off with the ND. I did select the correct range so can't see where I went wrong LOL.

May need to send it it TL to test.

Cheers
XG

Hmmmm....that is very surprising since your DX is measuring what it should...lol. But I assume you measured the DX without the ND filter...correct???

My X105 has peaked as high as 138mw's even though Nova rated it for 122mw's peak. Most of the time the laser will peak at 128mw's. But the readings on yours are strange. Either the meter needs to be fixed, or your laser might have a defective IR filter. These are just my thoughts...I know I am not Daedal, but I am curious about the outcome of this since I have the same meter, and a Nova laser.

That's not fun!

Try getting something else to measure... I tested them all, but without the ND8 filters. :-/

Okay I will do some more testing this weekend when I get some free time. I only spent about 10 minutes playing the first time so it may have been me

The only thing I am not happy about is the current this meter draws when it is "turned off". I put a brand new alkaline battery in it around Thanksgiving. I have used it for a total of maybe 1 hour at most since then. I went to measure the output of one of my lasers last night and after a couple of minutes the low battery warning came on. It comes on when the battery has reached 6 volts.

According to my DMM, and if someone else wants to measure and correct me please do so, the LPM draws .00016ma's when it is turned off. This doesn't seem like much but it does add up after a couple of months. I realize this is normal for this type of circuit, and the instructions do say something about removing the battery if the meter is not going to be used for an extended period of time. But the addition of a true on/off switch would have solved this. When the LPM is turned on it draws around 105ma's.

For the price I paid I am still very satisfied and happy with the meter. However I plan on doing something to correct this by either adding an on/off switch or using a nimh battery pack and attaching it to the back of the meter. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions please chime in.
After reading your guy's post's about this current draw. I modified my LPM with a nice switch mount. Here is the thread that shows the mod...

Does anyone have the link to the schematic diagram for building the datalogging cable for the LPM-1?

Thanks!

*Hey DDL,

Please update me on the potential list, if I was still on there, to show I will need a bit more time. As I hate to say, I bought one of Kenom's Thermal Units. (not saying I hate it that I got Kenom's hehe)(Still awaiting on it, ordered it when these weren't avaialbe, darn all this waiting! It sucks!)
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * : :-/ :'(- ;D

I still want one of these LPM-1's as a secondary/compairable unit against the Thermal, but need to wait a bit to recover some $$$, as LPF has drained me in the last few months!

Will these be available on a regular basis now? Do you see any issues w/ you having any in a month or two?

Please drop me a PM or post a reply about availability in the near future. *

Thanks again,
* * ** Joe
