Quite true, apparently. And be aware of wall converters. I just tried a standard "9 v battery eliminator" wall supply and it pulled the voltage down to 5 volts, so "low battery" displayed on the LPM. Not sure of the current draw, but it must be significant.

Current draw was a huge issue on this meter. I tried running it from my uber-regulated power supply and it showed a jump of almost 1 amp at times!!
I can only imagine what a 150-200mAh battery could do :-?

Daedal, is that 1 amp jump likely to be essential for accurate tester results, or does it maybe occur (during sampling transitions, say) in such a way that current limiting (as by a less than fresh battery) doesn't have much effect on actual tester results?

I had no problem connecting to the serial port and saving the data using hyperterminal. The first thing I did was to configure the hyperterminal settings then save it as an icon (shortcut) on my desktop.
A while ago, I ordered a USB to Serial adapter. I do not know where I placed the driver disk for it...I am sure it is around here somewhere. Anyway, I plugged it in and XP recognized and installed the drivers for it... :-? Then I connected the LPM-1 and opened hyperterminal and it started collecting the data immediately....very cool... The next step was to capture the data to a text file...this was no problem.
But I do have a question. Do you or anyone else know of a free easy to use data to graph converter? I have done some searching but have not found anything. Thanks.

Never mind...I figured it out... I am using Open Office which is free and I installed the new version. Creating a graph could not be easier.....

Yeah, I like it but I don't use that stuff that often..the install file is appx. 100mb's. It is really easy to create a graph from any data...I like quick and easy...well most of the time.. ;D It is free!
BTW, I checked the current the meter is drawing and it is a little over 110ma's at most even while testing...it doesn't change. So a 5 hour continuous run time as stated in the instructions sounds about right. I bet it would run twice as long with a lithium battery, and maybe a couple of hours at most with a nimh.

Although... I find it odd that you didn't get the jump as I did. I got it as soon as the unit turns on... IIRC it jumped to ~700mA
I could have set it up the wrong way, but 110mA current draw seems like a much better figure either way

I will, I am just playing with it all...the graph is super easy but I wish there was a way to plot the time at the bottom instead of showing the row number...there probably is I just haven't figured it out..
