I'll take 2 "faulty" focus adapters please. Do I pay you or Ken?

Rob

You can just pay me for all of the faulty stuff. I only take google checkout so just send me a PM with what it is you want and an e-mail address and I'll send an invoice to ya.

Here's some pics of the new focus adapters and heads, I changed one or two things. The biggest thing is I made the heads a smidgen longer, you can see what I'm talking about in this picture here.

The one on the left is a new head, all of the "fins" are equal lengths now. The one on the right is an "old" one, see how the bottom fin is a little shorter than the rest? That drove me nuts (I've got crazy OCD!) but I fixed them all since I had the chance. The bumpiness is a burr, it'll polish right off. (Aluminum is very soft so it has a tendency to "smear" especially when you are cutting very small chamfers like that at high RPMs, that is what makes the burr.)

I moved the location of the o-ring on the focus adapters, it was too high up so it quit being effective a little soon for my taste. I also made the aperture a little deeper and more aggressive looking, the old ones were a little too "rounded," they didn't match the groove well in my opinion.

If you have any questions or last minute requests PM me now! (I can't do anything too crazy at this point, but I can do a few things on the minilathe.)

Thanks for the patience guys, I promise that the "upgraded" parts will be worth the wait!

Will these hosts be a good first time build? If its as easy as popping in a 18650 and and a diode then I want two! Or will they make them with a diode pre-pressed? cuz that would be even better!

I believe Kenom will press some diodes for you, otherwise I can make you a special tool to press diodes.

These hosts are very simple to build, it's as easy as pressing a diode, soldering a driver, threading in a lens and you're good to go!

So where would be a good place to get a driver for this? And I can probably get a lens from someone on the forum huh?

Thanks for the link. So The classic groove uses a 18650? Thats good. I have one of those from my arctic. So I guess the rest is just to buy it and figure out how to stick it together lol

I can not say from experience, as I did not purchase an Arctic, but rumor has it that the 18650 Battery they included isn't of a very good quality so if you want a better run time you may want to pick up another brand. Tenergy, Sanyo, etc.

Pontiac,

I wanted to clear something up, are you sending the "new" focus adapters for all orders, or are you sending the "old style" and we have to buy the "new style" from you?

I guess the way I asked the question isn't the clearest either, but hopefully you get the idea.

I am certain that he means the new adapters will be included with the hosts. All the *upgrades* are free. The old adapters and parts that were not up to his quality standards are being sold cheap to get rid of them (I am buying a few and getting some modified for cmount and 9mm diodes). I ordered a 5.6mm and 9mm press tool from him too :).

Yep, that pretty much covers it all. If you ordered a groove from Kenom you are getting the "new" focus adapters and heads. I'm just selling all of the old stuff that the "new" parts replaced.

Uhm so your doing a total of 100 new heads and focus adapters? what about the ones that weren't oversized and didn't need fixin? I kinda liked the hosts the way they were and want some of the original heads. Ocd or not, I'm a TRUIST and that was the original design.

Yes they were designed to be the easiest builds around. So if your looking for a good starter laser, this is it. I also have several video tutorials detailing how to make these.

If you want to get on board I still have a few left over. Follow the payment instructions in the first post and this will get you on board.

Kenom,

About your videos, you should post them in the first post and in your sig. would eliminate a lot of questions for others.

I also updated my order about the black focus adapter, that must have been deleted at sometime.

Not to sound stupid or start anything, but...

Does this mean that the new heads don't match the 1.54mm spacing on the fins that I just measured on my barrel from the first run of Kryton Grooves? If so, I am with Kenom and would prefer to have one of your first batch of heads that had a correct size diode pocket with the original design that will match.

I also personally prefer the original design of the focus adapter you have on the right in your picture. Would it be possible to get those ones cut to fit 2 o-rings so it doesn't lose grip too soon?

btw I ordered an extra focus adapter for my original groove along with 2 more barrels, so you should have 101 focus adapters unless anyone else ordered an extra also.

The fin spacing is the same, the only change is that the very last fin is matched to the rest now, as the cad model Kenom sent me shows.

The threads on the old focus adapters are too loose, which is why I made new ones. The old focus adapters will not work on the new heads unless you use a lot of teflon or something similar
