well, we need those that are in from a while ago to start ponying up to pay. I've got about 30-50% of the orders on the spreadsheet paid for, but that still leaves me a bit shy.

I will indeed have extras

Where is the list of those who paid? I saw you start a list below all the pictures on the first post/first page, but I'm sure more than that have paid. (I know I did :D)

That might motivate people to pony up.

Yeah sorry, I just haven't found the time to update the list. I will do so today.

Thanks for updating the list ken!!!

Now we can bother people who haven't paid yet and as AJ_Dual eloquently put it...

That might motivate people to pony up.

We can only hope...:yh:

(I am becoming so exciting for such beautiful and excellent hosts...I am dreaming in kryton grooves now)

I just got all the dyes and chemicals for the anodizing in the mail today. I'm getting excited myself.

I've had to refund a few payments that did not follow the instructions. Hopefully folks can read and follow instructions but invariably you always get a few that can't. Not going to name names.. you know who you are cause your payment was refunded with a NICE note to please do it right. I have to keep track of hundreds of orders for lots of stuff and without a note in the payment, I just plain can't get you what you ordered.

As you can see, this is a far cry from enough payments to pay for this. However, thanks to those that have paid thus far. No horribly rush at this point, just trying to get the word out there so folks don't forget.

Kenom,

Are the threads on the Kryton Groove all anodized or is there an electrical left for the body?
Is the LD diode pocket anodized or can we connect the case pins to the (-) pin so the case pic, host, and (-) pin are all common?

Excellent question. The entire inside of the host is NOT anodized specifically to allow for electrical connection. As you may know, anodizing is a insulator for electrical current so everything that needs an electrical connection (pocket, threads etc) are all unanodized.

That's good news

You should chromate/chem/alodine coat any exposed aluminum to passivate any exposed aluminum and avoid corrosion. Plus it looks cool. I know I will be chem-film coating any exposed aluminum on my host when I get it.

Does that make the color look yellowish? I definitely wouldn't want that. The beautiful bare polished chrome looks too good to do that to it.

It would give the insides and threads a nice matallic gold color.
You wouldn't see it anyways... the entire exterior of the kryton barrels are anodized.
It's stricly for corrosion protection on the threads and insides.

as much as I'd like to, that's just not cost and time effective. I'm going to be spending hours and hours just preparing these barrels for anodizing. I don't have a large bath so it's going to only be like 4-7 barrels at a time. If a person wants to add something like that afterwards, maybe you can point them to a place they can get such a thing.

I see. You meant for only the internal exposed aluminum. Mine will not be anodized (bare polished only) so the exterior will be exposed aluminum. Sounds like it is conductive so it wouldn't interfere with the electrical conduction. It seems to me that internal corrosion wouldn't be much of an issue for a laser host that is kept closed most of the time and kept in a box for most of it's life(where I keep mine).

I need to spend more time on these forums like I used to. I didn't realize it was time for more grooves again. I only have 1 left from the original run and it needs some company. Unfortunately I will not have funds for them until next Friday (8/20). Would it be alright to put myself on the spreadsheet and pay next week? Also do you know how the laser engraved logo will look (presumably not white) on the finished anodized barrels?

Might be too late but have you thought about having a contest to see who can design the best looking logo for the hosts? Not that what you are putting on it looks bad but you never know what people might come up with. This assumes it would not increase the cost to you and is not difficult to do of course. The reward would be getting a logo on the host not really anything given out. Maybe another third party might donate something to the winner if the design is really good though.

EDIT: Looks like there is a contest for the beast that I somehow missed (Thanks Prototype)
