The REAL Kryton GB round #3. Taking payments now.

Re: The REAL Kryton GB round #3

I want to clarify one thing right now. At this point, the only barrels that for sure will be manufactured are the Grooves. Since the number of orders for the Beast, PPR and Blocks are so low, there may not be enough to warrant running them. Now Pontiac and I have been working on getting quotes and he has indicated to me that a smaller run is possible, but until I hear back for sure from his boss on exactly how much they will cost, I won't know for sure. I will let everyone know the instant I know.

As such, since I know nothing on price for the other hosts, I cannot give prices for them.
I can say for certain that the price of $50 for the groove will stick. This will include polished and anodized either black or clear. Any custom anodizing will be $25 extra

Re: The REAL Kryton GB round #3

Just added order to SS for 1 polished black groove and 1 polished black beast. Not sure if the info added for the beast is in the right column as the header column looks to have been changed.

Also to charliebruce did the driver you were working on work out or did that not go anywhere?

Re: The REAL Kryton GB round #3

I'm in for a groove with blue fade to black anodizing, added to SS

Thanks Ken,

Re: The REAL Kryton GB round #3

I also wanted to let everyone know that each and every Kryton Groove will be laser engraved with the logo like so:

Also, I've talked with Jayrob and we've tentatively come up with a focus adapter for the Kryton as well as gotten permission to make a focus adapter for the Krytons. So for those who are interested in a focus adapter, I'll be making a focus adapter that will allow the bare lens to fit into the adapter and thread into the barrel head. I'll post designs shortly. Jay will then receive the profit for each of the focus adapters manufactured. It IS his design and as such deserves the accolades as well as the profits from said adapter, which I'll improve upon for one lens and one lens only as each lens requires a different focal depth and inside diameter. I will not steal food from someones table.

Re: The REAL Kryton GB round #3

Any chance that focus adapter will work with the older Kryton Grooves? I plan to get the Groove that I got from you working with a 445nm diode at some point in the future.

Re: The REAL Kryton GB round #3

Absolutely. Since the design is exactly the same, it will work perfectly in an older Kryton Groove.

Re: The REAL Kryton GB round #3

I just thought there might be some very slight variations in dimensions fromthe older stuff after hearing that you did not have the old schematics for the grooves anymore.

That is great news. Count me in for one of them! Can you add a section to the spreadsheet for just the focus adapters?

EDIT: Never mind.. I see that Jayrob is making them so I assume they would be ordered from him instead. Any chance it will be a lens that works well with 445? I don't plan to buy one of the tweaked G3 lenses because I want the most precise dot I can get and I hear that the normal glass lenses have better dot shape and less splash. At near 1W power I care more for laser quality of the dot, divergence, and splash than I do output power.

Re: The REAL Kryton GB round #3

Is the focus adapter only for the groove or will it work with the beast as well?

Re: The REAL Kryton GB round #3

Actually since the grooves are being CNC'd, so will the focus adapters. That's why there will only be one lens option. Each lens has it's own focus depth and ID and the cnc shop won't be able to make 20 different lens configurations. Jay will still be making custom focus adapters for the other lenses types that I haven't chosen.

At this time the groove is the only one I'm working on. The beast should have one too, but since I haven't finalized those designs, it's hard to say if the beast will or wont' have a focus adapter.

Re: The REAL Kryton GB round #3

just a rough quick idea of what the adapter would entail:
focus%20adapter%20groove.JPG

As you can see. The bare lens would slide in and a retaining nut would hold it in place.
I havn't figured out how to put threads on the designs I do yet. when I do, it will show threads on the outside diameter of the bottom cylinder and inside diameter

Re: The REAL Kryton GB round #3

Which lens will the option use or will we need to supply our own to fit the adapter? Sorry for so many questions.

Thanks,

Aaron

Re: The REAL Kryton GB round #3

I haven't decided yet which lens I'll be using. There are a lot of factors in which one to choose and right now Jayrob is the one to get that information and final decision from, since he's got most of the information on what each lens entails and how hard it is to incorporate into a custom adapter.

Re: The REAL Kryton GB round #3

Man Ken, I said I didn't want you to be offering me anything for the Focus adapter...

There's not going to be much profit in it anyway.

About different lens choices. The tricky part of an EzFocus adapter design, is to have only a small gap between the host and the adapter.

So this means that it will depend on the lens used. My previous design for the Kryton EzFocus adapter uses an o-ring, which is pressed over the AixiZ focus ring. This allows the adapter to 'slide' in or out on the focus ring and kind of 'self adjust'.

With a build that has a heatsink with an AixiZ module, there is room for adjustment of the module position inside the heatsink. But the press fit Kryton does not have this adjustment. So I made the adapter so that it can adjust.

However, it's time for a custom fit design...

An AixiZ 445 lens will stick out farther than my 405-G-1. (which is what I designed the EzFocus adapter for)

So a new design will be made to specifically fit the AixiZ 445 lenses. One that will thread right onto the lens. And while I'm at it, I may just also take measurements for threading it to fit a 405-G-1 as well.

It may just be easier on Ken to just order the EzFocus adapters from me instead of him having to get them made with the barrels.

This way, I can custom fit them to what ever lens you want to use with it. And I can give it a knurled, or a smooth finish...

P.S. Ken, I don't know about the idea of fitting a bare lens into a custom adapter/lens nut. Because the lenses are different diameters and so forth. The 405-G-1 is a different diameter than a 650-G-1, and both are single element Aspheric lenses. But the AixiZ 445 is a 3 element design.

So it will probably be best to just thread the lens nuts into the adapter. And not try to mount bare optics...

Re: The REAL Kryton GB round #3

Jayrob,
Thanks for the info. I added to the SS that I wanted an adapter for each of the grooves I requested so either way. I do like your idea as I was wanting a 445 lens for one and a red lens for the other. Doesn't matter to me though just was wanting to find out before the buy goes through so I know what or where I needed to get the lenses if necessary.

REgardless of teh amount of money, I still feel you deserve it for your contribution to the Kryton barrels with your EZ focus adapter.

This is the primary reason I was only going to offer one lens type and not all of them.. Say for example only utilizing the Aixiz 445 3 element in the custom focus adapter and anyone that wants a 405-G-1, will have to contact you to get one made specifically for that lens since they won't be available from me. I just need the OD of the one lens group and spacing to set it up.

Re: The REAL Kryton GB round #3

Well Ken, you certainly go the extra mile... (10 miles!)

I know from experience that it is difficult to have to take apart every lens and then re-mount optics. Not that it would be difficult for just one lens. But if you have to do a bunch, it is time consuming...

So that's why I think it is better to just leave the AixiZ 445 lenses in their AixiZ brass nut, and make the EzFocus adapter to thread onto the lens nut.

This is much easier. Not only that, but it allows the lens to also be used for a different build in case the buyer decides to try it out on a different laser. Just unscrew the EzFocus adapter...

Not trying to but in ken, I just know that you put a lot of time and effort in everything else you do with getting these barrels made, and adding all of the other bits and bobs that come with them.

The lens with EzFocus adapter must be perfect. Because your Kryton Groove is perfect.

So like I said, I will make the EzFocus adapters custom fit to lens choices if people want them. That may be the better way to go...
