Im gonna use my night vision scope, it has a cap you can put over the over the lens with a pinhole in it for brighter light or brighter ir

What frequency (wavelength) is it? (what kind of n.v. is it?) most are not the correct frequency. I think humans radiate around 14000 or somewhere around that point... This would be fascinating to see! :eek: You should post some pictures for us if you can see the beam with it.

I will try and get a camera set up with it, that would be fun. as far as the scope its a third generation nv, I know that doesnt have anything to do with the wavelength but it sees ir leds im hopeing it will see the beam, lynn

Im almost certain it will not see the beam from this laser. if the lens is glass, it wont even be able to pass this wavelength. ::) Remember you need a znse lens to focus this thing. I have seen a -znse on ebay, and a +znse to make a beam expander for it. :)

using a glass lens to try and focus co2 is a laugh riot... lava anyone!!! :eek:

Aha! So normal glass pretty much blocks the beam completely? What about Acrylic plastic? I guess it's not completely transparent since you can engrave it.
If Acrylic would work maybe I should mill myself a couple of protection glasses... ;D

Pretty much any goggles will protect you from this laser, what I don't know is whether or not they need to be certified to do so, I would think you should still be very careful in choosing good goggles, I have seen some with side holes in them, you wouldn't want those for sure! :eek: The best thing would be to find some that say they will protect you from 10600nm. I'm sure acrylic also blocks 10600nm. Does anyone know of anything thats transparent to 10600? (other than znse) :-?

Your right the night scope does not work. I have the power!!!! Im waiting on the power supply I tied two alpha gells together only about 26/27 volts burns through paper and brown marks on cardbord not done finding the hot spot need znsn lens... its pretty cool thanks Chris :)

Maybe you want to sell IR goggles with them? it sounds pretty powerful for an invisible laser

wow! I hope mine are as powerful when I get them! :eek: :eek: :eek: that is amazing!
was it labeled as far as a power test or anything? Chris, did you do any kind of tests to see if these are actually doing over 10 watts? Just curious. :cool: I don't have anything to test these with, they are a lot more powerful than any of my other lasers. (except the 2 20watts I haven't been able to collimate successfully.)

Most are around 7 to 9W of output. A little known secret about co2 lasers, You can use ordinary ANSI standard Z-87 polycarbonate shop glasses as proper protective eyewear.

thats good to know Chris, Disma this one is marked 7 watts and thats enough power it could easly start a campfire and it lights matches that have already been lit hehe

If those glasses absorb 10600, won't they melt or scorch instantly?

WOW! so the minimum is 7w? ! I wonder how long 20 aa nimh 2ah would run it for! 10 min would be good! so it would be 17 x 6 x 6! WOW! Talk about an impressive laser! Nightstick, what did you use to control the pwm? Or did you just tie it to 5v?
