Re: OUTRIGHT BUY! 15W RF EXCITED CO2 BURNING LASER

NS -- I got some new 1500 degree paint. Haven't tried it yet but the 1200 degree paint went to smoke in about 2 seconds. I'm getting closer to controlling my PWM !!

NS ---

It's not the real thing but I use Flat Black exhaust manifold paint sold at car parts places. Just a light coat so it's flat black.

thanks Mike, I was reading to mix power charcol in your paint and that really makes the paint flat you can get it from the pharmasist (drug store) :)

Re: OUTRIGHT BUY! 15W RF EXCITED CO2 BURNING LASER

Hey guys,
I have been following your exciting thread closly the whole-time, unfortunatly, I cannot afford to buy a set-up right now, (even with Chris's great-price),as I am setting up a complete machine-shop. Really-cool whatching your progress though :).

I do not have any experience with RF-electronics, but I did run across this PWM on Ebay, intended to release hydrogen from water. It powers up to 30Amp, and produces frequency from 100hz to 15 khz.

I hope this is usefull, I will continue to live vicariously through you guys :)

Re: OUTRIGHT BUY! 15W RF EXCITED CO2 BURNING LASER

The PWM for these units only need to output about 20ma so I believe that's a little overkill... with a factor of 1500 or so ;)
Furthermore it requires 24kHz.

Charcoal is combustable and probably not good for this coating. I believe the high temp paint used some black metal oxide or compound.
The can only lists the solvents used.

Mike,

Nope, not in Kansas, but tomorrow it gets fired up with my Power One PS, sometime before the turkey comes out of the smoker and between rounds of clay pidgeons and lots of liquid courage.  I'll report back if I don't get electrocuted  ;)

NS --
Did your head read about right on the mW lasers? You now have taken the quantum step to WATTS. Those sensors are rated for 10 watts MAX. That's why it jumped :D

Re: OUTRIGHT BUY! 15W RF EXCITED CO2 BURNING LASER

PWM guys here --- I got my PWM working but if I'm at about 8 watt setting, it doesn't ignite and lase ..  I can start high and turn down but it has to make plasma first.

What are you finding?

Re: OUTRIGHT BUY! 15W RF EXCITED CO2 BURNING LASER

Hmmm. So you're saying that it doesn't ignite by itself at ~50% dutycycle? That doesn't sound right, right? How is the signal on your o-scope? Did you managde to get rid of the nasty statics? What LC-filter did you go with? Type of PWM-cable? Distance from lasertube?

Re: OUTRIGHT BUY! 15W RF EXCITED CO2 BURNING LASER

I have shortened all the leads going to the PWM circuit and added ferrite blocks. I still have some noise on the PWM input but It's high freq. Grounding the laser body to the power driver hepls somewhat.
I can adjust it from about 4 amps input to full power.

How's the other circuits you guys are using working for you?

Mike
