Really? Do you guarantee that? ;)

If so i'll take 100![/quote]
methinks that should be "mA" rather than "mW"

But more testing will yet to confirm if they both can be run at higher power levels.

Hey you left out that quote. lol

How bout i take out 1 word to make Igort happy lol ;)

Methinks it should be neither. Unless i don't understand the word "safelly"...

I would gladly have killed more 4x's for tests, but i thought they were not available anymore.. If this works out, i'll put more into the "accelerated aging" setup. Then we will know more. But right now my "stock" is very limited, and i can't afford it.

I just checked the counter, and the first one survived 137.6 hours at 150mA before becoming a LED. I just hope it wasn't a super tough diode, cos some died before reaching 140mW. But they are definitelly better than PHRs, and i want some.

Cos the one i killed, would have lasted over a year even with heavy daily use, putting out >150mW!

I was just asking if i can bring back those diodes, that die...  ::)

;)

They can be run at 150-170mW, that is true. And they would outlast a PHR there..

EDIT: Haha, you actually did it! ;D

yeah... my 4x has been running at 170mA for quite a while, it seems - but actual runtime is probably less than 3-4 hours, which is nothing like your punishments!

Igort needs to punish he's so he can give us a more better understanding and result of the BR diode.

Also so he can sleep better at night :D :D

Oh, i sleep like a baby, when i know diode's are being punished! :p

I'm preparing a new "punishment" setup for diodes, this one will age them even faster, and will use Zom-B's timers on a photo diode, for determining the total lifetime..  Just imagine how well i'll sleep then.. ;)

Zom-B's timer is meant to be put inside a laser, and time how much people actually use a laser, because it's easy to overestimate the time. When a diode dies, you know exactly how long it lived this way. It's a very good idea, cos most estimates are greatly exaggerated.

The first 4x i tested was powered by a circuit, that turned it on for a minute and off for a minute, and the beam hit a photo sensor, making a counter increase the number by 1. In the end i just multiplied the counts with the duration of a cycle. i got 8256 counts from a 4x at 150mA before it died = 137.6 hours.... If you were to use it 20 minutes a day, that's 412 days.. Not bad for the power it had! PHRs at the same power usually last two weeks with my level of use.. :(

I'll attach Zom-B's timer to the photo sensor instead of putting it into a laser, this will allow me to leave it on continuously, and when the diode goes LED, the beam will stop, and the timer will stop counting... This will allow me to do the same amount of "accelerated aging" in half the time, and see if they last longer in CW, than when powered up and down all the time.

Originally i wanted to test at least two 4x's this way. But when the supply seemed to stop, i changed my mind.

Do you want to contribute a diode to the testing? :p

That would certainly be a good gesture on BluRay's part ::)

I know I would buy a few if they really prove to be capable of higher output than PHRs at a given reliability. How many do you think will have to give their lives for science before we can feel confident, Igor? :-/

well, i'll be glad to help, if theres more orders for them. atm theres not much. but once the order reaches it limits, than i would be glad to pay 1/2. Others should also think about contributing, becuase itsbenifits everyone ;)

Well, i already think that they are much more reliable than PHRs.. How could they not be, they are writers. The first one i tested outlasted the best PHR so far by 7 times!

I believe the 4x diodes are very good. I hope i can increase my order before this goes through.

BluRay: Is there an upper limit to the order?

If the supply is not limited, i will kill at least two more. If someone contributes a diode for the accelerated aging, so much better.

I would also like to test higher powers, like 175mW. When i set a PHR to that power, it dies in hours (usually spread out over two weeks). One of these could last a long time even with my use.

I think it's safe to say, that 4x's would survive a certain higher power for as long as PHRs survive a certain lower power.

Like that 4x i tested at 150mA.. That one would probably outlive many PHRs at 125mA!

Maybe 137 hours at 150mA doesn't sound like much for a 4x, but that's a year in my hands. A PHR at the same current in my hands dies in two weeks!

Basically, if you have a PHR surviving a certain high current, that means your use is lower than you think, and a 4x would live longer at a higher current, putting out more power..

Well i really try to squeeze in as much order as i can before ordering, Its just the people that place order first i dont want to keep them waiting. Thats the reason why i went ahead and ordered soo many phr sleds than i have to before getting everyones payment. But it should be another week before i start ordering.

DanQ got your payment, thanks

I sent you money for 15 4x's (change my order please)....

I have some lasers to finish, if i'm left with any 4x's when i'm done, i will use them for testing, if it's for sure, that i'm getting more....

How many more 4x orders do you need to place the order?
