Re: PHR-803T HIGH POWERED HD-DVD diodes! FEELER!!

I could be in for one as well, haven't decided yet. It's mainly the shipping cost that worries me, but if it's just a few dollars I might be in for one. Or maybe I'll wait for the second GB when I (hopefully) have more money. Gah, all these decisions  :-/

And no, I'm not asking what the shipping will be. I'm just expressing my thoughts.

I'm interested in 4 sleds, but this depends on the shipping fee to Australia. Please let me know about this alright. Thanks mate for your time.

Cheers.

You could always have someone else harvest it for you. I'd do it (and I'm sure many other people would too), but I wouldn't want to be blamed if I mess it up. ;)

Re: PHR-803T HIGH POWERED HD-DVD diodes! FEELER!!

you see, you can get someone to do this for you, but really, whats the point?

DIY has three letters. Each corresponds to one word. Do It YOURSELF! Many people on this forum are turning the DIY laser hobby into a SEDIFM Laser hobby (Someone Else Does It For Me).

Please, keep the Y in DIY!! It is not that hard! How did us "experts" learn to do it? We tried, killed a few diodes, and now can do it easily.

TRUST YOURSELF!!

therefore, I have decided to NOT offer Harvesting in this GB.

Dont worry about shipping either. I dont think it will be too much, LOL

anyhow, we are going good!

THE DEADLINE IS WEDNESDAY THE 28th of May 2008!!! (2 days)

so if you want one, NOW IS THE TIME!

*update*

senkat has informed me that HD-DVD reader drives for the computer are for sale here:
http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=BLK-SD-H802A-DO-R

these are NOT PHR-803T's, and he has informed me that they are preety good power too. I have not tested them so I would not know.

These are like the good old DVD drives, extract the diode and you are set. 18.99 + shipping.

you could choose that option, as it may be cheaper for some. I personally would choose the PHR's, because they come in the optical sled, and all you have to do is pop the diode out.

so I guess this is where it divides, and so if you want to back out do it now.

since when are these not 803t's? I've killed 3 of them myself, and all 3 were 803t sleds.
I ordered a couple of weeks ago. Maybe the new batch has a different sled?? I hope not, cause I ordered 3 more.

I have harvested 10 of these so far. Every one has been a PHR-803t sled.

I don't know if they will eventually switch over to the 0811 sleds (or something else), but for now, they have all been PHR-803t's

Peace,
dave

geeks.com is definitely more expensive for me, and I think the same holds for everyone outside the states.

Oh yeah, this group buy is still a great deal. You're definitely taking your chances ordering DVD players/burners.
I've ordered 2 drives, which were exact model specified for red open cans, which had unusable flat diodes in them.
Never know what you'll get from batch to batch, I guess.

Yeah, last time I checked the shipping to Sweden was more than double the cost of the drive itself!

But man, I really want to get in on this group buy... :-/ I just have to decide tomorrow, I guess.

Agreed! Shipping full units around the world gets a bit expensive. Then many of you have to add additional taxes on top!! I was only commenting on the statement that the SD-H802A's are not the "stronger" diodes. Every one that I have harvested has been.

If you are NOT in the states (and really close to Geeks.com like me), this group buy is the best price I can see available.

Peace,
dave
