Re: GB: Laserglow Pointers (LPF anniversary engraving available!)

Okay. It'll be a couple weeks from the time of order to get the Rigels.

I was really hoping you were going to tell me we couldn't get the 2's since they weren't listed as in stock. :( No I feel even worse about having to change the order. I just can't pass up the engraving though. :)

Actually I assume it's embossing, not engraving. At least that's what the samples look like,

They use a CO2 engraver, and it burns off the enamel to reveal the brass beneath. :)

Re: GB: Laserglow Pointers (LPF anniversary engraving available!)

Actually now we use a YAG engraver. It makes much sharper engravings. :D

Awesome! Would you by any chance know the answer to this?

Is the Rigel-5 stable at 5mW or does it always jump around between 2.0-4.9mW like LG is telling on there website?

If it is not like they claimed, and working at stable 5mW (+/- 1mW) I´m in for this one with the LPF engraving

...emailed Justin but haven't heard back yet. :)

Trevor, please put me down for the engraved Lyra-5 instead of the Rigel-2. Had an unexpected bigger laser purchase yesterday :D

Nice!

So we have seven people definitely in, and Simon is still not sure.

I've got my fingers crossed for 3-4 more people... :D

Well I'll bite the bullet. Seems I'm not making the mortgage payment afterall...
Go ahead and put me down for one Lyra.
Let's see if it's as much fun as everyone says it is.
Where do you get goggles that will fit and stay on a 2 year old ?

Go ahead and also put me down for a Rigel-5, I may end up switching down to a Rigel-2, but we'll see.

Re: GB: Laserglow Pointers (LPF anniversary engraving available!)

You haven't heard from Justin because he's on vacation :D

The Rigel grading system works like this:

The laser is tested for 60 seconds. The average output power for that duration is taken and the standard deviation (a function of stability) is subtracted from it. If the resulting power is less than 2mW but more than 0.6mW, the laser becomes a Rigel-2. If the calculated result is between 2mW and 5mW, it becomes a Rigel-5. ANY laser that peaks above 5.00mW becomes a Rigel-6. Any laser that grades below 0.6mW or has a minimum below 0.6mW is re-worked.

Stability is all over the map. Some of them are quite stable and never vary by more than 1mW, while others might fluctuate by 5 or more mW during the 60 seconds. But because of the standard deviation testing method, lasers that are more unstable end up with a lower grading. For example a Rigel-2 might have an average of 3mW but dips down to 1mW frequently.

There is also a little room for interpretation during testing. While I'm testing these lasers I often think "If I bought this laser, would I be disappointed with it's performance?" If the answer to that question is "yes" or "probably," it goes into the lower performance grade.

So it's impossible to say exactly how each laser performs because each one is different. But rest assured you always get what you paid for.

Re: GB: Laserglow Pointers (LPF anniversary engraving available!)

Thanks for the detailed answer! :)

Final price list is up. The figures take into account the discount (16.9%), include flat shipping to anywhere in the world ($12), and PayPal fees (3.09%). US buyers are probably overpaying a little for shipping and international buyers are probably underpaying a bit. Gave it my best guess in the USPS calculator.

Buyer list updated also. Need two more! :D

Can you put me down for a Rigel AND a Lyra?
