Man, it'd be cool to have a whole block, but I'd have to sell a few of my other nice things first. :undecided:

I went to DTR's store, he doesn't have it listed yet with current and power test info, I guess these are too new.

This is the spec sheet. Techhood said the lowest they will do is $1150.00 for the 8x bank. They must have put it up for $700.00 by accident. That's a of money, but I'm sure these are some next level diodes.

these 8E data sheet 4.35W at 3.0A:cryyy: But I may have to retract my first bid of 2 to only 1 because that price is a little high. Still willing to put up some for the murder fund however. ;)

These modern diodes don't always murder, often with the 455nm they simply dim back and even wink down and recover when you turn the power down, they don't just go LED like before, you can find the fold back/knee by eye and the diode recovers, they are much tougher.

Now if you crank the amps past where it dims and lay on it you could kill one, but just finding fold back they seem to bounce back just fine.

For the nubm06 I think 4.5 amps is the sweet spot, but that's my opinion, it seems strong at 4.0 amps as well, at 5.5amps I see some dimming but not winking out.

I would go with 4.0 - 4.5 max amps on the nubm06, now the nubm08 we don't know yet, but I expect 4.5a to yield more power.

If we look back at each upgrade we see efficiency improves at rated max and beyond, the rated max may have more to do with efficiency than the diodes ability and it's efficiency at working temp.

Less power...Blasphemy!

LOL but you can get the mighty 06 for that. HERE

And if you wait until ABarnette gets some more pulls in you can buy singles for less that 1/8 the block price, so long as he can get his deal.

I agree RedCowboy, i want people miles away to be able to see my beams, not just the family down the street.

Excuse my English, but is this a Group Buy? For what - single LDs or whole blocks?

For power at the moment I would keep PBSing two NUBM44 or 06 and wait untill production of these brand new 08 ease the demand.

But if there will be a GB of NUBM06 blocks for 400USD, I would take one block. For a good training in knife-edging it has enough power!

LOL I feel the same way about power. Ill take Wavelength and beam quality over power any day.
Nice catch on the eBay deal though

That's not exactly the best thing for the hobby though.

Not everyone that enjoys lasers has the same opinion as you lazerman121. Some use them for burning only. If that's the case, wouldn't bigger be better?

I'll take both, but I really want more power density, which means a tighter beam. These high-powered diodes aren't exactly known for quality beams, so a lot of corrective optics have to be used to make them into actual "beams."

Imagine if they were like those 637nm 2-beam abominations.

Professor Heinz Doofensmirtzs showed us how to make a laser that had the power and beam quality to melt ice cream across town.

You need 5874 5mw laser pointers and a big magnifying glass.
