Well, as you know the first group buy was a phenomenal success if not completely finished. (Drivers be the only thing we wait for.)  We've all seen now the quality product that I tried to convey, albeit unsuccessfully, with mere words.  Now that we've all had a chance to see what they entail, I'm changing them a bit and offering them up for your review and ultimate purchase.  This time I'm armed with more than words.  I've also got 3d renderings of how the barrels will look for the second run.  Not many changes to be honest.  Some functional, some esthetics.

The product:
Same as before, in that it's a laser barrel with a direct press fitting diode (that you will have to provide) Optics that screw right into the head (aixiz acrylic), FINS ON THE HEAD FOR ADDITIONAL COOLING, driver included, lens included, retaining ring for clicky included, clicky and tailcap included, spring for driver assembly included, and aperature cover included.  These will also run off cr123, rcr123 protected and non, and 18650's protected and non. One size fits all. These will also be anodized and cleaned up as far as buffing and whatnot.  I will also offer up a portion of the barrels un-anodized for those that like to do thier own finishing (this will be VERY limited)

Asking price has gone up to include additional milling and lathe work on the barrels, anodizing, and additional parts, but considering this will still have everything you need to make a functional laser with the exception of a laser diode and batteries it's still a good price.  $50 per unit. shipping and handling is unfortunetly extra.  $5 for U.S. customer, and $15 for international (sucks I know but I don't set that price usps does.)  Shipping and handling is combined to a certain point and then it goes up.  for orders over 5 barrels the price for shipping increases for U.S. customers to $8.95 and international $35  These are flat rate priority boxes and will take a fairly large amount of barrels in them.

I'll also be offering up another option to include a different driver.  Dr. Lava has been busy toiling away making a switching driver that according to his last report is 85-90% efficient, no dimming as the batteries sag, makes for longer run time on batteries (50% longer),ramp startup that is easy on diodes so no blown diodes as a result of spikes, and works with both red and bluray diodes burner or non.  It's unfortunetly a bit more for this particular driver, but worth every penny in my humble opinion.  price increase would be $15 for lava's driver professionally assembled with smt components.

To those with keen eyes you will notice 4 grooves running down the length of the barrel.  This is a groove that a round rubber insert will be placed for 3 purposes.  1. grip.  Added rubber to the barrel will make for a more sure grip.  2. prevent rolling.  Stops when it strikes a protruded rubber bumper.  3. Aesthetics.  Makes it look better to have something to break up the monotony of a plain flat finished barrel.

Now to the eye candy!!!

Interested persons may voice thier interest and I'll keep track till payment page can be setup.

UPDATE: 6-6-08   The run is going forward as planned, the manufacturer indicated that they will start the run on or about the 16th of this month.  From there it will be a matter of a week or two.  I will then get the barrels, and forward them to the anodizer.  The anodizer has indicated that the anodizing will take no more than 10 business days to anodize the barrels.

I've selected the ones that are getting to be anodized to be grey like a Dorcy Jr. (I'll be shipping one to the anodizer so they can see what I want.)

Update 7-11-08  conversation with anodizer has given custom anodizing costs.  Interested persons can view custom anodizing at http://www.wpgbc.com/photos.htm
Price will be as follows for custom anodizing.

Any marble affect will be $20 additional
Any fade effect will be $20 additional
Any solid color other than clear or black will be $5 additional

Interested persons must email me at kenkassidy@hotmail.com with your order transaction #, whether you prefer paypal or googlecheckout for payment and color anodizing choice so that I can send you a invoice from either paypal or googlecheckout for the additional fee.

OK this is important. To those that have not installed your diode into your pocket, follow these steps. I've had a few people ruining thier barrel head by trying to press the diode into the pocket.

YOU HAVE TO BEVEL THE POCKET.

THEN ONCE YOU'VE BEVELED THE EDGE INSERT A DEAD DIODE! This will shape the diode pocket to the diode without damaging the diode. Remove dead diode and then insert the good one.

Interest +2 for 1-2
depending on how my second driver GB goes which I absolutely refuse to start before finishing the first one.

Re: Laser Barrels V2. GB. Second run.

I started the second one cause soo many people were inquiring where they could get one. Now they know!
I'm shooting for 300 on this one. doesn't bring the cost down unfortunetly. but with so many people interested and the high quality of the product I've no doubt we'll reach this!

Re: Laser Barrels V2. GB. Second run.

I'll go for 1, maybe 2 depending on my $ status at the time this goes... with the new DrLava driver.

About that driver - when available please post specs: min/max Vin, adjustable output current range, etc.

Re: Laser Barrels V2. GB. Second run.

well, I was told that the lava driver was going to be utilized specifically for the 18650 batteries only. Meaning probably that it has a higher current requirement than capable of the cr123's. I'll inquire about adjustable current range.

Re: Laser Barrels V2. GB. Second run.

Hi, the lavadrive2 has a lower current requirement than the standard driver because of its buck switching capabilities. While it is possible to build it to accommodate two CR123s, the efficiency suffers (73-85% instead of 85-90%). As such, the decision was made for the longer runtime and better performance available from a single 18650 power source. If enough people want the 2 CR123 option (driver input voltage range 2.4-9V), it could be included.

Input voltage range: 2.4-5.5V
Output voltage range: 2.8-5.25V
Output current range: selectable 30-200mA (low), 200-600mA (high) ranges set by resistor, adjustable with a pot.

Sounds perfect! I really like the 18650's.

Thanks!

Re: Laser Barrels V2. GB. Second run.

if there is enough interest in this GB for 18650's I'll purchase them in bulk from DX and we'll be able to save a little money there with a charger. currently for a pair of 18650's it's $10 and a universal charger for cr123's 14500, and 18650's it's $9.50. I'm sure we can shave $3-$4 off that by buying in bulk.
