Just make sure that the 18650 cells you choose fit. I had 2 protected ultrafire 18650 cells that didn't fit inside.

as promised:
I GOT 'EM!

I GOT 'EM!!!!

--------------------------------------------
2 reds, 2 purples ( 1 light, 1 dark)

they're beautiful!
thanks, Kenom!!!

--------------------------------------------
now, if I could just finish this #$%@! new driver circuit!!
anyone have experience with PLD's and the like??? I have a good design but having trouble with the software-to-hardware part - my tools don't seem to be right. [notifications aren't working for me, so pls don't respond here - but PM's on the topic will be appreciated...]

Re: Laser Barrels V2. GB. Second run. Kryton Groov

Sweet!!  I'm so glad that folks are finally getting thier barrels.  I'm going to be sooo much happier when all those that are still owed barrels from V1 get thier replacement barrels and we can close the book on that one and this one as well.

So here's the question.  Those of you that have a barrel, if they were offered up again (same exact design) would you get another or more??  I am seriously questioning wether there will be enough interest in this same barrel to warrant turning more.  I do have plans for some other barrels and will share those with you shortly but I was looking at having more of the Grooves turned as well.  Whatya say??

The way I see it, is on all of the laser forums there are only so many people and once they have one or two of a particular barrel there's no more reason for them to buy more. However if there's a new design and different barrels, then there is interest in owning the next in the line. Just like a flashlight. Yes you may like the particular flashlight but your not going to buy 20 of the same type.

Re: Laser Barrels V2. GB. Second run. Kryton Groov

well, I'm maxxed out for a while. I ordered my 12 back when I was still able to work, so there was a funding source - and expected to make some of the barrels into saleable items to fund future lasers. That's still the basic plan, but this disability trip is harder than I thought, it's not going on schedule.
I'm not likely to be ready in time for your next model... unless it takes the same length of time as this one ::)

Now, don't everybody start emailing and PMing with offers to buy barrels! I have plans for them, which I'm not yet ready to give up on. (and up with which I will not put)

umm.. [smiley=evil.gif] that is, unless you want to discuss more than 2 digits left of the decimal... [smiley=evil.gif]

Ken i gess you have to do a feeler, cause although many have them, there is still alot more that wants them, but maybe changing them design abit, so it has a metal aperture cap that opens and close like the PGL laser would be nice, and some more driver space, and maybe side clicky button LOL

many things you can change, but i guess its up to you. also its not only people from here buying, its other aswell.

I like the back tailcap button, the metal tailcap idea is great and prehaps easier focusing.

A metal front cap would be great, so far I've broken off the tops of all the caps I received. It would have been nice if there was an easy way to open the damn thing short of using a knife.

yeah, i broke alot too. cause theres no grrove bit to get inbetween to open the cap, and the plastic thing that holds them together is so fragile.

A metal screw on cap on the top with fins that has a open and close hole for the light to come out from would be great. It would make the Barrel look soooooo professionally built.

Here's what I did about the caps:

I got the red groove insert material, and cut it to a length that it goes all the way around the bit you insert the cap into. What this does is stops the cap sinking too low to be closed. I also got the bit of the cap opposite to the hinge and made a notch. It now works perfectly on mine.

Re: Laser Barrels V2. GB. Second run. Kryton Groov

I can't imagine you not selling out another run. I am very happy with my barrel
(if not my (lack of) skill at getting a working setup built into it.)
Those marble ones are just drop-dead gorgeous... I think I literally drool when I look at those pictures.

Cry for advice:
My semi-good diode is now my dead diode, as the pin broke off during the process of getting it connected to the resistors. The driver didn't work, for reasons unknown. Where are there actual hookup diagrams for the lavadriver groove? The PDF for assembly is fine, but it does not show which side is for laser, which side is for battery... I figured the diode would protect against a problem in the event of reversed polarity or hookup, but I assume that's why it is non-functional.....
So now I'm faced with a dilemma: Crack open my daedal-built project box blu-ray, or get a new diode and a new driver for the barrel? Actually, it's not a dilemma. I do NOT trust myself to get that diode out of the aixiz housing unscathed... The antenna idea seemed to work on my test, but if I screw it up, I'm blu-less. Can't afford to keep sinking money into it.

How low can you drive the 803t's? according to one of the charts I saw, it looks like 40mA is possible for around 20mw...
I'm not really keen on having a toy that can blind me or someone else, if i screw up and hit a mirror or shiny opject. I'm just too chicken.
I'd prefer 10mw, but not a diode that is such a pain as the kes....

I find this amazing cause once you cut a notch into the top it's a snap to open and I very rarely break the back.  Even if I do break it off, it's still handy to put in your pocket while your lasing as it's not "hanging" and potentially getting in the beam path. I've no clue what adding a metal cap would do to the cost as it's more than one peice that needs to be machined. What I do know is that by doing so it will make it a LOT harder to focus the laser with it on.

Are you referring to a picture that shows this???

PIC_0010.jpg

As far as how much current you can send to the 803T that depends on how much power you want.  The 803T is capable of up to 200mw if you get a good one and REALLY push it.  I like to stick around 150mw or less.  Just don't like pushing the envelope that much.  If you are interested I can ship you an "assembled" Groove driver for $10 set to any current you want.  My recommendation would be to get a new diode and install it.  If your leary of doing so I'd be happy to insert the diode, solder it to the assembled driver and ship it back to you for a modest fee.

i think a metal clicky would be good, or a pd system like on nitecore flashlights:
