I have looked at rat shack. None of the really small buttons are clicky's only momentaries and even those are big.

oohh, i get it, momentary is not clicky... why do they call it "clicky"? is it because of dx?

Re: Laser Barrels V2. GB. Second run.

A clicky is named because of the mechanism inside the switch that locks into a channel to prevent contact.  so you push it down, you hear a click (like a ballpoint pen) as it moves from one channel to the next and contact is made.  Push it again, hear the click, moves channel again, and no contact is made.  it allows for continous on, instead of a momentary that only makes contact as long as your pushing it down and bringing the two contacts into each other.

Another benefit of the clicky is it can be used sometimes as a momentary. Press it down only partially and the contacts come in contact with one another but the channel doesn't switch. so when you release the tab, it moves back out of contact and stays taht way until you fully depress the button.

I personally like having the clicky on the end, so if you do find a suitable side switch it would be nice to keep the option of an end switch.
I'm sure there are others who prefer them how they are as well.

Re: Laser Barrels V2. GB. Second run.

The host for my last violet had an end-clicky; I added a momentary up front (to control dimming and on/off)... and it comes in pretty handy to have both.

With the end-switch clicked off, it acts as a safety so the thing doesn't fire up in my pocket (that would be a real no-no for a 200mW red )

And between the two switches it's harder for someone to just pick it up and turn it on without knowing how - it would take a couple of seconds, anyway, since the side switch is more obvious (or could be).

But if I had to choose I'd take the side switch. Haven't found any real elegant switches for that though - except the cylindrical one in some DX flashlights like this one. If I could find raw switches like that somewhere, in different sizes...

Don't you just love the constant demand for feature-creep? ::)
We're going to talk you into a $100 do-it-yourself barrel before long. ;)

so, well, disregarding that - about the "clicky" part: that could be accomplished with a simple latching circuit... if you're using a dc-dc converter it may have a toggle or a suppress or whatever-its-called that would allow it.

But - on the other other hand - side switches, unless they are in the barrel breaking the positive terminal, can add wiring hassles (and the latching circuit I favored above is perhaps worse because it requires integration with the driver board, which limits driver flexibility).

This is also another thing that is currently slowing me down as well. Dr. Lava's driver is designed for a switch although it's not been implemented. the other driver does NOT have the switch added to the board so it would have to be changed to implement and wiring a switch into the driver in a fairly limited space area is not fun, especially for those with limited electrical skills. Adding the switch into the existing driver, means spacing must be taken into consideration and a plunger has to be designed and produced to depress the switch and how it lines up with the driver. So, as things sit, until these issues have been addressed, the barrel design will continue to utilize a tail end clicky.

:)neat - that means that those of us who want to and know how, can implement that.

Please add me to the list for run 2. I missed the first run.

How soon do these need to be paid for?

payment should be made prior to 4-20-08
However, the sooner everyone pays for thiers the sooner I can pay the manufacturer and get the ball rolling. they did promise me a faster run time this go!

Good choice on a date to end such a good thing on!  ;)  Just curious are you going with the same manufacturer?

OK maybe I'm missing something on the date. was just a date I picked at random and as far as I knew didn't have any significance. Maybe someone can explain it.
