There are 6 units stuck in customs right now - those were part of the second order. I am not sending anything back until I receive replacements for them, as they will be paying shipping to return them...

Ah, ok. I had thought you had to send this batch back first. This way it does work out better as long as they pass customs. Just let us know...whatever is easiest or best for you is good with me... :) Thanks.
P.S. Sorry this has caused you so much trouble... :(

Well... not sure is I should be asking, but... are there any prices that have been discussed regarding the under-spec units?

Also, Will you be shipping the 6 new units to the people who ordered them or to the people who ordered from the first batch and still didn't get their units?

Too much confusion going on there... :-? Sorry

Thank you Greg;

Hey guys - no need to say sorry - that is MY job on this one !! Geesh what a pain in the A$$ this has been ! Here is how I think the 6 incoming should be handled - IF they are in spec, I will randomly draw from all names, and send them out. IF I get in the replacements for the underspec units, and they are indeed up to par, then I will send those out as well.

Now, if nothing else comes in - all of the remaining ones will be offered at a discount (read as, you will get a refund, if you accept a lower powered one), or you will be given a full refund. Now, here's the sticky part :p I do pray that each of you will be as patient as possible while I try my best to tie up the loose ends on this completely screwed up deal. I am about fed up with the entire thing myself, so I KNOW you guys have got to be at least a little pissed off. I DO understand. I hope the above sounds fair ? If not, please let me know what YOU think would be fair, okay ? As an FYI - {THIS IS A HOOT} Picrthis has been completely refunded, but the FUNNY thing is, I did not click and ship enough on the label, and it was returned to me as postage due, so I recovered those two lasers ! LOL !! Seems I screwed up that one label, since he was in such a hurry, his was estimated, labeled, and shipped off to make him quiet, and I did not put enough postage on it. I friggin LOVE the USPS right now - it arrived back in my mail today - and I gladly wrote the postal lady a check to cover the screw up, and kept the package :) HAhahahahaha ! I hope everyone can see the humor in that ! Anyways, please let me know what you all think is best, please...

Senkat I dont know how you are managing to keep your sanity with this, you are doing a great job and I want you to post a pic after you have done this of you so we can compare it to see how many grey hairs you now have, that is if your hair hasn't fallen out from it all ;)

Seriously GREAT JOB DUDE

Mind you the way its going I am going to get a delivery and when I open it up I will be like wow a red laser, how did i get this, who sent it what a great gift ;) Just like you with that package from Nova :p

*Edit* Hehe just read your post you posted as I posted mine, nice with the parcel being returned back. With regards to whats going to happen I think it depends on the spec of the Laser's you have as i am thinking a Homemade Sentorch from you would be a better bet than one of their underspec units ;)

Hmm ever think about making some violets ;)

Now, you can check out the ones you sent him and see if he would have gotten a good one or not.

Patiently waiting...

Anyone who's ever done a group buy - for anything - soon finds out that it is pretty much a labor of love. I know the feeling! ;D You're doing fine, Senkat! :)

Actually, PICRTHIS didn't lose anything significant on the deal. He was completely refunded and the postal screw-up just saved him the trouble of sending the units back to Greg (since they were refunded he had to anyway).

Also saved Greg the trouble of dealing with him again. :)

I can wait... this is nothing compared to the month+ wait for the dx200 that was a complete toss up. at least this way I'll get a refund for sure, or end up with a laser that meets or exceeds all my expectations.

Hey, this group buy is for a LASER, not something I need to live. I'm just glad that Greg is making sure the units are up to spec! That's worth the waiting time alone!

Just think Greg, you prob could have built better spec'ed units quicker than this and would have taken less time, LOL. (possibly).

At least this whole thing gives me something to check on and look forward to. All I can say is I'm not pissed off at all and more than that I feel bad for Greg's time he has had to put into this.

Hi all,

I received my "broken" laser today. Thanks Greg.

Has anyone disasembled theirs yet? If so, any advise for doing so?

By focusing the lens to about 10 inches, it is able to ignite a match in about 3 seconds.

Thanks,
Tom

I'll see if I can post a picture sometime today if I have some time. But I see the main problem. Take a look at the first post that greg made. The front of the laser is metal. Then there is a short plastic segment that has a threaded portion that screws into the alum. battery barrel. To make the positive connection to the battery section, there is a small brass washer with the positive wire soldered to it. When assembled, the spring makes contact to the neg battery contact and the brass washer contacts the positive battery case.

It seems that the washer on the broken unit is about three times thicker then the unit in Greg's picture, thus limiting the amout of threads for the mating of the parts. So when the unit was damaged in shipping, it just pulled the threaded part out, stripping the last thread in the plastic part.

Other than that, it looks to be a well made unit. If I can get a thinner washer, I think it will go back together just fine.

Now, I am waiting to see if anyone else opens their laser up to see if I can get to the current regulator.

On another note, my two laser diodes arrived today. Again, a big thank you to Greg.

Regards,
Tom

Hello Tom,
What kind of match did it light. Was it a match from a book of matches, a safety match, and what was the color of the head of the match. Also did you have to sharpie the match? I know this seems like a lot of questions, but it can help to kind of gauge the power it is putting out. Thanks.
