I carefully clipped off the flat cable from the pins, and removed the window from the front.
After the removal of the cable, the funny round solder blobs are even more obvious.. I've never seen solder points like this.. At least not in professional electronics.
The diode has no marking under the flat cable. But neither do most of the diodes in the ebay auction..

The heatsink is hard, and the diode can't be popped out by bending it. I'll have to cut it carefully with a diamond cutting disk.
The black thing between the metal heatsink and the diode, seems to be some sort of thermal epoxy. It's hard, but brittle. This will make the extraction easier, as i won't have to cut to the diode, just to the epoxy.

I have to cut it on at least three sides to be able to flex the heat sink down and away from the diode. I ruined my first one learning that. :-[

Don't worry.. I'll treat it as if it's a 12x..


EDIT: Extracted and cleaned, safe and sound, no damage, still in virgin condition. Haven't even touched it with a soldering iron yet.

I'll install it in an AixiZ module and graph it in high resolution.

I really hope that in the end these are 6x diodes because right now I have no lasers at all :'( blu-ray just died a few hours ago (my last remaining burning laser)

Well... That, yeah... But also, so that when it dies at 100mA, no one accuses my testing or extracting methods of being the cause...
That's the only reason i posted pictures of how nice i was to it..

I see that there's still a lot of confusion on all these posts. Could someone distill all this relating to the 6x buy down to a few sentenances ?
Are we getting 6x and when.......... Simple is super in communications.

Someone should make a separate thread in the blu-ray forum telling what diodes are for real (4x) and what aren't yet (12x), and how much the real diodes cost/where they are available.

I have no idea whats going on with this... I think AMK would be the one who knows all. I really hope we get some sleds soon though!!

I did not show them a picture and ask for the sled, I found a random company, (that had some great testimonials....) and I e-mailed them asking for "GGW-H20L". They responded saying they have them.

I demanded pictures, and they sent me a few from this forum.... Then they sent me goey's.

I asked for an ACTUAL picture taken by THEM, and they admitted that they had ordered 2000 units from a supplier around November 1st, and they will arrive at their warehouse by the end of this month. They will then take a picture, and next to it on a piece of paper handwritten the name of the company.

They then will take detailed pictures of the front and back, and we will be sure. They promised that they are 10000% sure these are GGW-H20L, and they said they [highlight]know they are not GBW-H10N's (4x) because they have those in stock already ready to ship. [/highlight]

Indeed, they don't have the GGW's right now, they will have them in the beginning of the next month. I heard something about the fifth of December.. But that was just a guesstimate.
