if anybody is not ok with it, I'll take theirs so you don't have to lose $$ (ain't I nice?)[/quote]

LOL

with that said then I will go ahead and order.

ok, well... if you happen to order too many... ;) :-*

I like the new sleds - the optics mounts are very accessible, that might even be useful for actual laser experiments :-?

also there's a neato-nifty solenoid showing :D ::)

I get a funny feeling about those, they dont exactly appear to be state of the art, and strangely resemble the knock off ps3 sleds / 803t. There is nothing to them, in comparison to a 6x or even a 4x sled. Anyone else having the same thoughts? At $55 bux a pop and a flimsy looking design, im not sure about this....Anyone???.... :-/

Ok Amk, please put me down for 4 more in batch 4... (but pending the initial testing of a sled from batch 3) if that's ok...

what it looks like to me - at this great distance, from a photo - is a cleaner design, which may or may not mean "nothing to them".
As long as AMK gets to test one first, I see no problem.

I'm more worried about what this does to the value of those $55 4x diodes - not to mention the PHR's!
oh, yeah - pointers for the masses!

I think I'd better go thimk up some more value-added features...

It has been pointed out that many of these distributors tend to stretch the truth just a bit to make a sale. One has to wonder why sleds would be available for drives that are not even being sold yet...

It does sound too good to be true, but I believe Amk said that they were sending a couple of sleds for him to test...

That would be better. They already told him that the GBW was the same as the GGW, and they were wrong about that.

Not complaining about the 4 X though Amk...

Re: 12x Blu-ray SLEDS GB! 450mW!! Sanyo 12x!!

I am not seeing something or is there only two diodes in there? One for blu-ray... one for DVD... what about CD (IR)? I suppose they could be combined in the one diode, but high power diodes usually aren't combined, from what I've seen.

Plus, not that I want to add to doubt, but if this is higher power, why is there really minimal heatsinking? The sled looks like plastic, leaving those little metal blocks to do all the dissipation of heat.

I know the time-sensitive nature of things like this (who knows if they'll sell to someone else), but maybe you should wait for a sample to test before going "all-in"?

The trapezoid optic and the two lenes are the only thing keeping me in. They look knockoffish to me still. Though the sled is probaby not plastic, just looks it...maybe???... :-/

the sled has to be metal... have you ever seen even a really cheapo be plastic? would not be rigid enough, too static-y, etc...

Looks like maybe a 3rd diode, between the 2 obvious ones - just above the little white square thing at the bottom of the 2nd photo; there's a lens or some optic between there and the cubic optic that's in line with the blu-ray mount - ?

enough idle speculation, I'm packing - back in a day or two - save me a few, eh?

Yeah, I dunno... I really hope that the supplier is correct. I hope you (AMK) get some in from the supplier soon so that their claim can be validated.

So, if I did want them, I would be waiting for #4 then?

Re: 12x Blu-ray SLEDS GB! 450mW!! Sanyo 12x!!

im getting a test first, and most likely will send to Igor for the diode analyzer. he can give us some specs on the stuff.

regards,

amk

P.S. the drives are in developmental stages still, I guess that's why it has a cheapo look?
