Just like the 803T Amk... The diode case pin is not used. The positive pin is the same as like a red diode. The negative pin is the one that we do not use on a red diode.

done. Here is a preview of the graph:

full download and txt log file in attachments. the txt will show you the mW reading for every second.

WIERD RESULTS!!!

220mW at 250mA. As it got hotter, the mW rose!!! A LOT!!! so I think Jayrob your TEC is restraining the diode! The diode was hot to the touch after 5 minutes straight of 220mW. it rose in mW every second or so as it got hotter.

at around 25seconds in the graph I bring up the mA from 0 to 200 at about 5ma/s. Then at about 55 I go from 200 to 250 slowly.

regards,

amk

EDIT: NVM could not find the txt file...

Woe! Maybe some of these diodes are HOTTER that others! 8-)

Actually, that sounds about what I had guessed it would be. I predicted about 165mW's at 200mA's. You went 250mA's and got 220mW's. That's about 1mw per mA from my graph. (estimating your AixiZ acrylic to be about 10mW to 15mW lower power that my Meredith glass)

But I can't believe you pushed it to 250mW's!

I just built a Meredith glass 'Side Button Pocket Pal' with my other sled... (this one is already spoken for)

I got the reading that I was expecting (per the graph that I made) at 220mA's.

I had to keep it under 200mW's so that the blu-ray warning label (which says <200mW's) was not inaccurate!

I don't know if these sleds should be called 6X or 4X, but either way, they contain an awesome blu-ray diode! Well worth this price...and don't forget about the bonus red diode!

nice. My pot broke, and so it turned all the way around and back to max resistance... so I though my diode died for a sec... almost trashed it... then i realized the problemo. fixed now, im lovin the 200mW of blu!!

Ok... for the blu-ray diode, unless I got a freak diode or something, this is a completely different diode than the 6X from the GGW-H20L.

It starts out low on power by comparison, however!...

The following graph shows how the power just kept on climbing and climbing! It even starts to get steeper with more power!

The beam is flat just like the PHR-803T diodes. But as you can see, the power to current ratio is different from the 803T, as well as the GGW-H20L 6X.

Keep in mind that these measurements were taken with a Meredith glass lens, but that should not affect the power curve. With an AixiZ acrylic you will probably be 10mW's less. Or maybe 15mW's.

At this point, I have not found the 'knee' of the power curve yet! At 218mW STEADY, I'm not too sure I want to push it anymore for fear of killing this awesome blu-ray diode.

What do you guys think about chipping in to cover the cost of this sled and I will continue the graph in 10mA increments until it dies?
If so, we could all pitch in to Amk for batch 3 and I will get the extra sled on batch 3... If I chip is $10 or $15 bucks, we only need another $45 or $50...
Jay
I think we all should remember science is about well controlled and repeatable experiments, also, I would be forced to wonder, if the diode died and wasn't overheating, what killed it? *Could it be COD? *Are there other stresses we have not looked into? *Clearly, more is yet to be learned. *-Glenn

Well i dont know what everyone worried about, from my point of view, i would be appy to pay $55 dollars for even a 160mW BR diode let alone 200mW

And im sure by the end of next week after alot of people have gotten their sleds that we will see more results, we cannot say for sure of 3-4 results, all of them vary from one thing to another, diff driver, different heatsink, etc etc.

All 3 of these above mentioned examples from these new sleds were right on target with my first graph that I showed a few posts back. The only difference was that Amk's test used an AixiZ acrylic and pushed it higher. But the power was right where my curve predicted.

As far as what killed my first diode... as you guys said, more testing will tell the story. But on the other hand, 3 1/2 minutes is much longer than most of us really need to leave it on for! I'm plenty happy with a minute or two...

If the power climbs as the diode gets hot, it could be mirror alignment. I doubt all of them will do the same. I had some PHRs that climbed with heat. The actual efficiency still drops, but the mirror alignment causes a greater difference..

It would be great if these could withstand 160mW after AixiZ for a long time. My PHRs usually die after <20 hours at this power.. I will definitelly hook some up permanently at different currents, to see what happens.

Otherwise, several of you have the diode, but i still havent heard about one thing - the Vf. What is it? Just approximatelly..

For example a PHR at 160mA has around 5.5V, my 6x has 5V at 200mA. Where is this diode's Vf, or even better, what's the range? Did anyone check?

Default Re: 6x Blu-ray SLEDS GB! GET EM WHILE THEY LAST

Great.. I should have my first batch in a few days, but i'm anxious to know. It could help match them to a datasheet, cos so far nothing really fits.

Also, let's not forget that 405nm diodes are often deceivingly "tough". Or rather, they pretend to be.. Just because they can survive a certain power for a number of tests, doesn't mean they will still be alive after the total use time reaches 30 hours for example.

Reds were so much easier... With blu's you can kill a diode, but not even know for weeks, because they die so slowly.

Whatever these turn out to be, they are bound to be better than PHRs.

yeah... I'm hoping these are closer to the 6x diodes (that most are familiar with) than the 803Ts... the 803T diodes are good fun, but I think we're asking too much of them. *I hope to use these diodes in place of the 803Ts to make actual long-life, continuous use lasers rather than "hope they last" lasers

Along the lines of what sk8nmidget needs since I want an RGV laser scanner *
