So far it looks like increasing the current increases the heat, which increases the wavelength.

I saw a picture of the PL520 on TEC. The color was very similar like the 532nm lasers.

increase heat --> increase wavelength
increase cold --> also increase wavelength ? :confused:

Osram's datasheet says that peak wavelength increases (more green) as temperature increases and decreases (more blue) as temperature decreases.
We should probably expect something similar.

Ditto, Google Docs is amazing :)

I've got to go for now, I have to do some other things to do today. The rest of the data will come in later tonight and tomorrow. There's still quite a bit to be done.

Edit: Also, the rising/falling temperatures on the spreadsheet is because I let the diode cool in between tests. I want to keep the input vs output charts around 25C.

I can't wait to see what things look like when you start pushing it past 200mA and approaching 300mA, if that diode can handle it at least.

I'm thinking of decaning it and looking at its guts.:wave:

I'll do my best to get some close up pictures after the diode is dead, still acquiring data on the first diode. :)

It'll be interesting to see where the peak efficiency is. If it's past the manufacturer's rated power, then it'd be really surprising!

My data shows the peak efficiency at 140-200mA. Drops pretty gradually after 200mA.

I am trying to figure out what Driver to drive it with, and while there is some time before my host arrives, I am really hitting some walls.

1. Is there a consensus on how the BenBoost Mini would work for this? There have been current spiking issues in the BenBoosts but I think he(ben or moh) said the newest batches shouldn't have that issue....

2. If not the BenBoosts, what? I am trying to find them but everyone seems to be out of microboosts and Lazerer is extremely busy and hasn't had the time to PM me back.....

Any advice is welcome. The host I will be using is a 1x16340 Host. On the other hand, I just purchased a GLP-593.5 from Jcranmer so if I absolutely CANNOT find anything I may try for a pen style host....but I might still need a boost driver for a 2 cell build, right?

EDIT: If I used 2 x 10440(AAA sized?) cells that should give me 8.4V at full charge, right? And the draw on these diodes is ~6.5V for 200mA?


On another note, did you detect any visible difference in the 518.25nm and the 520nm? I would limit current only if it is worth it on a wavelength scale....

X-drive with three cells will work, or a linear driver with three cells, other than that I do not know.
I think Ben is working on a new driver (or a modified benboost) for these diodes.

I'll compare 518.25 and 520nm side by side when I have the other diode wired up. So far it's looking about the same to me.

Yup this diode only hit 120mW at 320mA. I think this diode may die before I plot up to 400mA. Hmm.
