Its not that much of a priority (pardon the pun). You have a PM Dethlore

Its between 10 and 20 days. Not an issue here.

Oh, before I end up sending any payment, I should probably confirm "paypal fee" -- I take that to mean we check one of the "personal" options, so that we eat the 3% fee. It'd be sort of silly to send extra money to cover the 3%, since then 3% would get charged on that slightly larger value, recursion would happen, and things would just get weird...

The way I figure it is thus:
Add discounted goggle price, then shipping, then take 3%, and that's what to send. I know overall the PP might be more, but it won't be more than a couple bucks for the whole thing, so I'm not worried about covering any of that.

I dun give a crap - I'm gonna add goggles cost + postage + pp fee then send it your way. IT sure outweighs paying full price for the goggles.

either way, add me on the list again for a: ARG 56

just found this website -> http://hightechdealz.com and it opened up the whole world of blue laser thus the requirement for ARG

Yep. As long as it stays under about 12 oz (2 pair + box is safe) then shipping is not bad at all. If it goes over that, shipping is just a couple bucks more. Worst case scenario is I can stick it in a flat rate box for $12!
Sent a PM of new revised price.

Default Re: GB oemlasersystems goggles

Newbie to the forums here. Was wondering if it would still be possible to get into the group buy for two pairs of DBD goggles in Style 56. Was also wondering if the lenses in Style 56 are the same size as the lenses in Style 35 or if they were smaller. Style 56 looks to provide slightly better protection due to the side shields.

Is the DBD the best pair available suited for 532nm green lasers? I saw recommendations in the thread that the ML7 goggles were also very well suited to 532nm green laser (+IR) protection. I was originally going to ask about purchasing the ML7 goggles but did not see it on the list in the first post.

Also I have not purchased my laser yet but I am pretty sure I will be going with this one to start with unless someone has a recommendation of something better: Power Rock Green laser Torch 50mW /Focusable&Waterproof [OL-MRGL50] - $36.99 : Zen Cart!, The Art of E-commerce
I wouldn't mind spending more for a quality laser and am planning to buy a more high powered one in the future. I think this 50mw one from O-Like.com is a good starting point though. I've used weaker laser pointers in the past and have already read up on multiple threads in this forum regarding laser safety.

My other option for safety goggles, if I am unable to get suitable 532nm protection from the group buy, would be two pairs of these for $104.38 total or $52.19 per pair after the LPF member discount: Eagle PairŽ 190-540nm & 800-2000nm Laser Safety Goggles
While these are $79.06 cheaper for one pair, or $158.12 cheaper for the two pairs I'd be buying, I believe the OEMs would provide better protection. Safety is the number one priority for me in dealing with these high powered green lasers.

Thanks!

Improvidus:

I'm quite sure you can get in on this GB as dethlore is still collecting payments. The ML7s will be fine for greens up to about 1.5W, and the IR wavelengths as well.

In some ways, I think you might be better served with those DBD goggles. I have the ML7s, and while they do protect me well for what I have, I would prefer a little more protection than what they provide just for ergonomic reasons. The spot is still visibly bright at 100mW and I fear it might get irritating to work with with higher powers like 200-300mW. That wouldn't be dangerous, but a noticeably bright dot can be fatiguing on the eyes for something like alignment. On the flip side, if you're showing someone your green laser, it helps that they can actually see the dot and be impressed--even while protected.

Those DBDs are also good for 445nm in addition to 532nm (the ML7 does not protect for that wavelength). That would save you having to get goggles for 445nm, which you'll probably want some time too. For myself, I would still prefer using my YLWs for 445nm because they have such great visibility (73% VLT I believe).

On the subject of VLT (the amount of other light you can see). One thing that has started bugging me is the low VLT of the ML7s. It's like having greenish-gray sunglasses on while using them, and it makes it hard to adjust things or work around those lasers unless I have a lamp on. Those DBD have about twice the VLT of the ML7 at 26%, which would be nice for working with.

Another thing to consider: the OD7+ of the DBD might be "too much" protection, making the dots hard to see at all. My experience using those cheapo red laser enhancement goggles was that they were almost "too good" in reducing the light of a 532nm to just a faint spot. I don't know what OD those would qualify as, but it's much higher than the ML7's OD 2.5+ at 532nm.

Finally, on the subject of getting goggles in general, if you're going to get goggles, you might consider getting a pair to cover red wavelengths (which is the final pair of goggles I need for my collection, and what I'm buying this time). The ML7s will protect up to 150mW of red laser light, which isn't much; the DBDs will not protect you at all. With new red laser diodes in the full watt range, having some decent red protection is a must. I've been forced to use my ML7, and turning down the power just to be safe--but even that looks bright, especially the 635nm lasers.

These group buys don't happen too often (mean time between is about 1-2 years), so it'd be good to have the protection now.

Thanks for the feedback! I was originally going to ask about ML7 goggles but after looking at the others that were available I decided the DBD goggles would likely be better for my use.

As for the red protection, would the RB2 be a good choice to buy for possible use in the future if I were to acquire a high powered red laser?

Currently I am looking at two pairs of the goggles. One for myself and one for another person. I know I want two pairs that provide protection for green lasers. I'm not sure yet if I want to go for two pairs for protection from red lasers. Would be quite a bit of money for all of those or four pairs total.

The other possible thing I could do is just get the DBD goggles and then go for something like this: Eagle PairŽ 190-400nm & 580-760nm Laser Safety Goggles
Would those Eagles be okay for a 250mw, possibly up to 300mw, red laser or should I spend the extra $51.46 now for the RB2 OEM goggles? Obviously I'd like to be as safe as possible if I were to acquire a high power red laser in the future.

Why is the KRY not on this list?

Can I still join the group buy if I want the KRYs?
