Hey guys! I contacted OEM and Tony has been talking to us about a great group buy:
[W]e will … offer a 7.5% discount across the board using a discount coupon. There are also volume discounts that automatically get applied for additional savings.
...
Normal quantity discounts:

2-5 Units is 5% discount
6-10 Units is 7.5% discount
11-25 Units is 10% discount
26+ is 15% discount

So, if you buy two pair of glasses you get a 7.5% discount plus a quantity discount of 5% resulting in a 12.5% total discount.

The coupon code is: HOBBYDISCOUNT and will be valid for one month (until 20 JUL 10).
Because we added the 7.5% discount to help if you couldn't get 25 pair, the percentage does indeed work out to a 22.5% discount if you order 26 or more plus free shipping to whomever is the organizer.
Keep in mind the group buy discounts are available for ANY filter and frame combination. This is not specifically for protection against 445nm. If you have a CO2 laser, for example, you can order protection for that laser under this group buy.

Some options for 445nm. (not recommending any in particular)
The lower VLT the less visible light let through. Like darker sunglasses.

» AL3 - VLT:19% - OD5+ (180-395nm), OD3+ (395-540nm)
» KTI - VLT:23% - OD7+ (190-532nm), OD7+ (750-820nm)
» KRY - VLT:10% - OD5+ (190-579nm)
» YLW - VLT:73% - OD6+ (190-450nm), OD5+ (451-460nm)
» ARG - VLT:48% - OD7+ (190-532nm)
ARG: note for 532nm, at OD7+ you may not see any dot at all.
When OD7+ is used with high powered 405nm or 445nm the dot you see is likely only from fluorescence. Most material has at least some fluorescence.

ARG: Jasonlitka posted a few pictures his 500-550mW 405nm Blu-ray viewed through a pair of ARG glasses & says he will post results the 1W 445nm WL Arctic.
Some other options that aren't certified for 445nm.

» ML7 - VLT:13% - OD5+ (190-400nm), OD2.5+ (532nm), OD1.5+ (630-655nm), OD3.7+ (795-1070nm), OD4+ (810-1064nm)
ML7: note for 445nm, these lenses are note certified for this wavelength, although they are extremely good wide broadband glasses otherwise.

Here's a link to all of their glasses.

Re: GB for OEM Laser Systems protective eyewear

Hey guys... I contacted OEM about a group buy and here was their response:

So what do you guys think... can we 25 people interested in buying some of their protective eyewear? I know I would be in for aleast a few pair myself.

Sounds good, but to be honest I think you should let a more well known and trusted member. Not trying to be mean, but you're new here, and no one knows you from a hole in the wall.

Any vets willing to take on this GB?

No offense taken at all. I completely agree! I just wanted to help out the group. I hope someone does take it over. I am going to buy several pair myself even if we can't get a GB together. Whoever takes it over, I'll send them contact info from OEM I received.

Re: GB for OEM Laser Systems protective eyewear

1 Unit: List Price
2-5 Units: 5% discount
6-10 Units: 7.5% discount
11-25 Units: 10% discount
26+ Units: 15% discount
[...]
I will offer 20% discount for 25 units or more plus free shipping to whomever is in charge of the group buy.
[...] The turnaround time for the build is 7 to 10 calendar days.

20% would be excellent! I've been planing to order a pair from OEM.
Also with 5% off for only 2 it sounds like anyone planing to order from OEM should try to grab another member & see if OEM will still offer 5%, nothing to lose.

Yep right now it looks like a great time to get a pair of top of the line goggles with discount! I hope we are able to get someone to take this over and get 25+ pair on order!

Re: GB for OEM Laser Systems protective eyewear

Lets indicate if we are interested in one (or more).

It seems 445nm diodes can do 1 Watt! Perhaps more.
Don't trust your eyes to non-certified cheap glasses when we can get a 20% discount!

For 445nm @ high powers (532nm & 405nm too) OD 7+ @ 190-532nm VLT:48% norm $78 ($62.60 after 20% off. Save over $15) Almost OD 8. The wrap around sunglasses style is great. Other styles at bottom of page.
. . . . . .
Even tho there may not quite be a leader for this GB atm, if there is enough interest someone will step up.

Maybe if someone else that has a more recognizable name on the forum re-posted this there'd be more interest.

Re: GB for OEM Laser Systems protective eyewear

Did you guys not see what I said in the other threads? These are TOO good. You will NOT be able to see ANY existence of the laser beam or dot at OD8. It is extreme overkill. I suggest someone actually ACQUIRE these before EVERYONE buys them so we can see if they are actually in the OD8 range or not, because if they are, then they are NO GOOD. Not being able to see the laser can be just as dangerous. Also, it would be a waste of everyone's money.

At OD8 you have 0.000001% transmittance of light through the glasses. At 1W that's 0.001mW coming through. YOU CAN'T SEE THAT. Especially if your laser is lower than 1W.

Re: GB for OEM Laser Systems protective eyewear

I'd still like to see my lasers, seeing at least 5mW of it would be nice.

I have a pair of cheap focalprice green shades and they COMPLETELY block my 215mW blu ray (even tested through the camera). When wearing them you see just a little yellow dot, and that's it!
Using OD8 goggles would be like playing with IR lasers.

I've pretty much decided I'm not going to get the ARG OD8+ glasses. Right now I'm looking at these:

-AL3 OD3+ AL3 - KTP, Argon, Blu Ray Protection AL3 - KTP, Argon, Blu Ray Protection [NR-AL3-EN207] - $74.80

-DIW OD3.5+ DIW - Blu Ray, Red, Yellow Protection DIW - Blu Ray, Red, Yellow Protection [NR-DIW-EN207] - $102.00

-KRY OD5+ KRY - UV, KTP, 190-579nm Protection KRY - UV, KTP, 190-579nm Protection [NR-KRY-00FDA] - $98.60

-ELX OD5+ ELX - YAG, Harmonics, 671nm Protection ELX Laser Protective Eyewear [NR-ELX-EN207] - $136.00

The ELX lenses are kind of expensive... but I like how they cover a huge range.

What are your impressions on those 4?

I'd go with the KRY glasses, OD5 is perfect for these 445nm :D

Re: GB for OEM Laser Systems protective eyewear

I added the DIW set after you posted... OD3.5 good... or you'd still look at OD5?
Well most of us are looking for good 445nm glasses. The DIW are only OD1 at 445nm :undecided:

Oh right... my bad! I saw the range wrong. I am looking for a 445nm set also. Scratch that one.

Re: GB for OEM Laser Systems protective eyewear

I'd be interested in a KRY pair. People should also consider buying an ML7, as they're great all-purpose goggles, covering green and 405nm, filters IR, and can even be used for lower powered red.

Also see if someone like scopeguy or amkdeath can help you with the GB (not to volunteer them or anything of course).
