I'll take one at $80 shipped to Australia.
The only other thing excluding computer and laser you will need with the scanner is a DAC. You can modify one for around ~$25.

I'm doing Lot of research on galvos because I am going to get a set for myself. From what I understand you will need a DAC (digital to analogue controller) and a correction amplifier board. Athens you need some software to run the galvos. There's more to it than that and hopefully somebody else can offer a little better/detailed list but those are some things I'm pretty sure you cannot do without. Electrofreak has a tutorial here on the forum that explains everything you need to know.

How reliable are these? I was tempted to get some 20k sets some time ago but couldn't justify the cost. If these are of decent quality I will be down for a set. Since they are 15k, I would imagine beam shows and text are as far as you can go with them?

If you are all getting these, you will all need a DAC or else a DMX controller. You could read up on the differences, but a DMX controller will only allow preset patterns determined by your scanner. A DAC is much more flexible, but may take some time to put together, or else is pretty expensive to buy. In order to build a sound card DAC, which many hobbyists here do, you will need to purchase: http://hacylon.case.edu/ebay/laser_diode/LaserBoy_Correction_Amp.php
and should have an oscilloscope in order to tweak everything to the right settings... I'm not sure how others may have done it without an oscilloscope. You will need a $15-$20 usb sound card as well. You will also need a laser with TTL or Analog modulation. TTL is on-off, analog is adjustable power. Analog is more expensive, but allows for more colors when combining with other lasers using dichros. It will also be hard to combine these beams without adjustable/kinematic mounts.
*By the way, if you decide to use a laser without TTL or Analog modulation, then the graphics will appear as a continuous curve. The difference can be referred to as blanking. It's pretty much a necessity.

As for speed, 15kpps means 15 thousand points per second... these are not often used for graphics, though they can be, but are more used for beam shows. Generally people start with 20kpps for graphics. Of course, you can obtain different speeds depending on your scanning angle (how wide you turn your galvos). These are considered a step upgrade from stepper-motor systems (which are solely used for beam shows).

The one by Dr. Lava is good, but it needs to be used with a sound card, the levels need to be adjusted, and then it only works with certain software, particularly the free software LaserBoy, and the inexpensive (around $100/ $70 on sale right now) software Spaghetti.
And DMX is included, but you still need a DMX controller in order to control the thing. Right now it will MAYBE be able to do a random test show function, but if you want to control individual designs that are included, you need a controller like: Amazon.com: Chauvet OBEY10 Universal DMX-512 Controller: Musical Instruments
(or a better one). For example, I have this one: http://www.amazon.com/Chauvet-OBEY7...8&s=musical-instruments&qid=1306598776&sr=1-3 and I believe I bought it on ebay for about $120.
