I'm interested (2 CR123's), but after reading everyone's input, I'm still a little lost on what the final lens setup will be. he one from the 12x30mm Aixiz that screws in?
And I haven't seen anyone mention the button. I'm pretty lousy at rigging up housings. I can't even get random reds or greens apart without destroying them. I'm not all that optimistic on getting the driver board or switch installed.

The button will be in the tailcap already assembled. and the lens will indeed be one of the lenses from the Aixiz module that screws right into the head. We won't be needing to cut any part of the aixiz module off to use it either from what I understand from the manufacturer. It will also be pre-installed. If your concerned about putting the board on the diode I can solder in onto the diode for you if you would like. Essentially it's a board that will be soldered right directly to the board. Like what you see on the green lasers.

Re: GB feeler laser barrels

Hey Kenom, what exactly are we getting from this group buy? Is it just the laser housing or does it come with the driver? Because if it comes "complete" (no LD but everything else) I may just have to buy more. ::) ;)

Re: GB feeler laser barrels

this is the laser housing, barrel, lens, clicky, and driver. Yes the driver will be included. Both bluefusion and DR. Lava have been wylin the hours away on laser chat comin up with a driver that will work for this. HE's got them made and are fairly innexpensive.

So yes everyone the driver WILL be included.

I've been contemplating the need for fins on this thing as per Benm's recommendation that just a solid mass of aluminium is Not going to be enough to properly cool. We'll see how this works. I've got a machinist now who may end up makin me a prototype to see what the plain barrel is capable of.

Ummm, I got another question. Blue ray or SenKat diode drivers. because if you can choose either one then put me down for another for a total of 2.

Looks like this has stalled.  All we need to do is get 10 MORE!!!  Our goal is within reach.  I'm not trying to pressure anybody but this is going to be sweet.  climb aboard the barrel wagon. (heck we might get drunk on the trip!!) Wooot woooot!

Don't worry, some people buy more after they see promising results. 1's and 2's will turn into 3's and 4's, maybe more! It is kinda hard to gauge know many to get when there is no prototype. But after we see what we are getting you will probably have to do another GB because this barrel wagon only seats 100. :D

Hello all,

This GB just prompted me to join the forum. I'm in for two.

Kenom - what will be the process for making payment?

Thanks!

Re: GB feeler laser barrels

Yes, its true, Ive been working my ass off designing a driver in conjunction with Dr Lava. I'm working on 'Laser driver mk III' right now.
The driver will be choosable for BluRay or red diodes, but will still be adjustable in a smaller range because every diode has a different 'personality'.
If you decide that you want a different driver it would simply be a matter of swapping a single resistor to alter its output.

And anyone asking, he said payment will be arranged via Google Checkout or Paypal once the minimum quantity is met.

Another that's joined just because of this GB? Boy that's gonna make me think I'm important or special or something. LOL kidding. Glad to see your hopping on the bandwagon.

When everything is finished on this and payment needs to be sent bluefusion is correct we will use google checkout or paypal.

Blue is also correct in that the driver is designed for both the bluray or Red laser. Changing one resistor is all it takes to get either. I'll post a picture of the driver

Re: GB feeler laser barrels

now just because the picture says vin is 9v. does not mean this won't work off 6v from 2 cr123's. Lava designed this specifically to work off 6v. I am talking with a machinist to help me make a prototype for everyone to see. he wants a laser so he's going to help me build the prototype in exchange.

Re: GB feeler laser barrels

@Kenom & Blue:

I'm not too good with electronics, and I don't mean to poke my nose in with the circuit, but could you make the circuit to have BOTH resistors soldered in by default, and add a small DIP/DIL switch to select between the two 'modes'? i.e. the switch selects the resistor. This would make it super easy for people to use then!

Just an idea....

Re: GB feeler laser barrels

If I may make a suggestion, the Die4Drive sets its current limits by having 3 separate resistor link pads which are then shorted depending on the current range desired. a similar design based on this idea might be used If the circuit is to be built out of SMD components on an etched circuit board this might be easily achieved. Then again we might as well go with a full blown smd driver circuit if wehave the time.

Actually small dip switch seems like a better idea ;D

Re: GB feeler laser barrels

a switch or a dip or something like that would be a very good idea.  If it's doable is a different story. We're workin with a limited amount of space and trying to get all the components in the space is going to be fun.  Trying to add a jumper or switch may not be doable.  But I agree it is a good idea.  I was thinking a potentiometer there but that's a pretty wide margin there and it would take measuring the resistance on the pot to get it right.

To save cost on the driver boards I may ask for volunteers to solder these together. Hehe. gotta be good with an iron tho!

Re: GB feeler laser barrels

As for a jumper to fit both resistors, i will see if I can fit it. Quite possibly, this would also solve the problem of how many to make for BR and how many for red. Is a jumper w/ 3 pins OK for everyone? You can all manage to swap that?
And I'm not going for all SMD components deliberately because they are more expensive, and more importantly a bugger to solder. i dont care if anyone says their good at it... i'm doing the assembly at this point (for free) and i dont like them. :p

Re: GB feeler laser barrels

Sooo, im sure we can manage to get the 5 remaining spots filled to progress. After that, what do you think the approximate time frame would be (be generous towards yourself for time)? I would just like a ballpark estimate and don't worry im sure the last 40 will be knocked out before or right after the prototype. :)

P.S. I have people waiting for me to make them a laser. So after I see the proto. I will most likely buy more! ;D
