GB laser barrels

No updates in a few days... What's the latest word?

Were just waiting on the fusion drives. Blue has all of the components and is assembling them. shouldn't be much longer. For those that want thier barrels coated with sharkhide aluminum protectant let me know. It's not the best solution but it's better than nothing. You can always coat these things yourself. it is time consuming and I'm not the best "painter" so far the 9 I've coated have all come out splendid. keeps them protected and is completlely clear. like painting them with alcohol cept it bonds with the aluminum and leave behind a covering. I'm also waiting for the remainder of my tailcap cover. Glow in the dark, black and orange so that everyone gets one of each color.

(wondering if it can be had in a can and have color added for tint and then sprayed via an airbrush)

Also, do you see any issues listed on the product about painted over this stuff after apllying???

Wow!  Those are all really good questions and the only one I'm really able to answer is it's called sharkhide, it's a company based in Idaho falls, Idaho.  Thier website is http://sharkhidemarinesales.com/  Like I said before it's designed as an aluminum hull protectant.  As far as can it be painted after it's applied or if it can be added to the protectant I've not a clue. it is in a can.  Those are all really good questions and I can certainly call and ask.

The one issue I see with me treating these barrels is they are not buffed smooth.  The cnc machining process leaves little tiny grooves along the barrel they are about .10mm thick with .10mm groove in between.  it doesn't affect it's appearance as you've seen or it's functionality.  but it's not a "finished" surface and not near as shiny as it could be.  If I treat the barrel, you wouldn't be able to buff it or whatnot without removing the sharkhide.  You can get a small 4 oz. can of sharkhide (not a clue for how much) that will treat about 100 barrels.  I would highly recommend everyone who plans on buffing these smooth and shiny not have me treat them.  Not to mention as I said before it is time consuming to have to string up all these barrels with the string running through them to hand paint them with a sponge.  I will paint them with the protectant but it will delay those that want them painted by a few days more. I think I'll end up charging for treatment since it wasn't inititially included and it's such a pain.

i don't want mine treated.. I'm planning on sanding the crap out of it until it's mirror shiny

Hint -- use a buffing wheel !! coat immediately.

Yes, I'm going to charge to coat it.  $5 per barrel.  it's for several reasons.  1. it's labor intensive,  2. the barrels aren't finished (buffed or whatnot) so there are still small scratches on them from rubbing against the other barrels. 3. Sharkhide is not cheap although it only takes a small amount to coat the barrel.  You can probably buy a 4 oz can from them if you inquire.  Not only will you have the means to treat your own barrels as the coating starts to come off, but you can also coat any other aluminum producst you may have.  This is primarily to get you guys to finish these yourselves and get them perfect which I don't have the time to do myself.

I'll take pictures of the minor scratches and imprefections I'm referring to.

The first is a pretty noticable scuff or nick.


Second is very hard to see line going diagnally down the barrel.


Donno why the top of this barrel is more shiny than the bottom.

OK blue let me clarify.  I am NOT buffing these prior to applying the threatment.  So those imperfections will be there to stay. I don't have a buffer or a means of cleaning these up.
