yeah but if we leave the diode insertion point anodized then scrape of the anodizing it will make it so that the diode will no longer fit. it's pretty important to make sure there is no anodizing around the diode insertion point as the anodizing will kind of act as an insulator for the heat and prevent a good portion of the heat from being wicked away.

Those projects won't be worked on till this one is completed. I don't know how possible it is going to be as I currently don't have a functional c-mount laser diode. If someone wants to donate one to me so I can start on taht project I'll take donations.

I'm sure that it can lava. I'm making the hole for the diode the EXACT same size as teh diode for a nice tight press fit. these places are NOT getting anodized. Not only does the anodization increase the material (thereby reducing the hole size) it also prevents thermal conductivity. (to a degree) I just found out that the manufacturer had understood that I wasn't going to be getting these anodized, so I'm having to pay more to get these anodized. (whoever said that projects end up costing more in the end than estimates needs to be SHOT!) I will not pass this cost on to you the customer unless it works out to be $5 or more per barrel. if that happens then this run will just have to go unanodized. *sigh* Or i'll buy a vat of sulfiric acid and anodize them myself! Now. I was told by the manufacturer (who I talked with again today) that he's got the runtime set as finished in his shop and in my hands by the 18th. shop time is "scheduled" If he goes beyond that date, I'll be talkin to the man about free anodizing!!! @#!@#$#$$%%^&^&

hey kenom you can buy this thing called matte powder paint or something and it comes out as flat black

The matte finish would be on the aluminum prior to anodizing, using a light sandblasting, or a acid-soap etch. For a brushed finish, scothbright, or similar is used.

As far as enlarging the hole after anodizing, If you were doing a lot of them it would be hard on your tools as the anodizing is harder than the drill bit, but very thin. Doing a couple should not be a problem.

well it shouldn't be an issue as the hole isn't going to be anodized. I'm masking the threads, diode insertion point and inside of the tailcap so taht they aren't anodized.

Ok, I've been commissioned by Kenom to draw some CAD mockups of these laser barrels. Check out the pics below. I used ProDesktop 8.0 - basic, but it gets the job done. I also ran a few of them through the rendering part and made it look like aluminium + a cool mirror finish.

I'm also fond of the Jelly Bean version. Could they be anodised like this?  :p *joke*

Anyway, let me know what you think!
The threads are drawn, just hidden, as they are fine pitch threads, they tend to show as a mess of circles, so I hid them.

well, currently they are $35 plus shipping. However there's no more room in the current run. I'm sure there will be more.
