Default GB feeler for aixiz module LD driver board

this will be the post where i keep the most updated photo of the driver, and give the most up to date info about it.

more info might be found in the experiments and mods section > aixiz laser driver mod? thread

the board is currently .310 x .545 inches

its going to be made with pad2pad software, and i can get 236 boards for 128.8 = 55 cents each.

i would prefer to sell them to a distributor, especially senkat, but i dont know if that will happen, and i will be buying them eventually, so i might sell some to you

the boards come as boards, with nothing on them, and ill list the components below once i know what they will be for sure.

it currently has room for 3 resistors in series, so theres plenty of current variability, and you can use either the LM317 or the mc33269 of the SOT-223 package type. it is otherwise pretty much the same as DDL's driver.

reminder to self. do not make jpg so big.

Sawt,
FITF & I are talking about possibly having some of these available assembled. Maybe even adjustable ;D
And yes, by setting the appropriate current, it should be able to handle BluRay, Red, or IR diodes up to around 500-600mA or so.

Hey - at 55 cents a piece!? Put me in for at least 10. Even for $1 each.... I like designing PC boards, I DON'T like etching them!

yes the components will be small, but no not impossible to solder, and yes some might be available assembled, but not adjustable. i can find no potentiometer small enough to fit inside an aixiz module. sorry .

once i get a prototype made (should be soon) and make sure it works, ill buy them all and put together a howto for soldering surface mount stuff, its really not that hard. i got it my first try.

keep the questions coming.

Hey FITF- there are SM pots that are about .125" square, on a ceramic substrate (probably a total of .075" thick). I believe I ordered them from either Jameco or Digikey years ago. I can post a pic if it would help - lemme know. Does the full LD current flow through that pot, or out of the ADJ pin? Not sure the min wattage required on the pot.

actually what would really help is the type of footprint that the pot uses. ill look on digikey, see if i can find it.
thanks,
-FITF

edit:

just looked, and it seems that everything small enough is far too low on wattage, (around a quarter watt). higher wattage and they get too big. if anyone would like to prove me wrong with the perfect pot... please do!

i have another question for you interested, maybe one of you will know the answer.

does anyone know of some type of thermally conductive (non-electrically conductive) silicone? not something gooey like a heatsink grease, but something that stiffens up (not completely) so that when its dry its rubbery, and it could be peeled off? something like this would help with any heat issues this thing might have.

also: notice new picture

when I pull apart DVD burners, there are these little thermal pads inside for the IC's that get hot. I think that is what you are looking for. I have a bunch of CPU grade and GPU (graphics processing unit) thermal pads, (before I got into lasers I would pimp out and mod/build desktop PC's) but they are thin. The ones in the DVD burners are a bit thicker. they do a vary good job at dissipating heat though, and are not electrically conductive.

Mark me down for 5 more (15) I want to get this thing going

no, i need something i can pour, or squeeze out, before it hardens. my intentions are to put together the aixiz module with the driver board inside and then fill the remaining cavity with something thermally conductive, that in the case i need to take it apart again, i can simply peel the stuff off, not wash it off with solvent.

and im going as quickly as possible with the boards, im trying to get one made with the laser engraver at work, but theyre slow.
