GB | 515nm Diodes - Payments Stage Starts at 10th July

Right on thanks. If i get time tonight i was gonna use the other diode to under power it to see what happens

I want to go to the planetarium again tonight for the laser show. Last time they gave me the full tour. Pretty badass lasers they got

A little off topic: Are they still running Ar/Kr ion there? :D

A little on topic: I need to find a host and a driver that I like...

I dont know anything about gas lasers yet sadly. I wa trying to ask the operator last time but she knew less about lasers than me. Sigh

If you saw them you'd know - generally >4ft long, 3 phase power, water cooled ( so nice and quiet! :D ), amazing colours that you can't quite get with diode/DPSS.

Edit: Still no functional tracking here.

The diodes i got from the ebay deals sections!:
powered to 170mA!
It put out a wopping 12mW! I am using a radiant LPM that doesnt always display the best low levels!
I want to do more testing to verify this but thats my first test!
sry guys for the lack of info.
The color was pretty badass though, I will try and post a pic comparison later!

What voltage?

I had two mostly charged 16340s so about 7.8 volts into a linear driver

And yes i do remember her showing me that they were watercooled. Pretty amazing setup

UGH! The 9mm NDB7875 I had purchased in the GB was a weak diode and couldn't handle the 2.4A:cryyy: It's NOT any ones fault but that one hurt as I was so looking forward to completing an all brass build more than a 515nm. Not going to let that happen again as I have the tools to check. $40 down the drain:tired::scowl:
Yeah, I'm taking a break but I'll get back to the 515nm's in a bit.

Just some quick info:
5mW was at 70mA with one of the lenses from the GB
10mW = 75mA
15mW = 83mA
20mW = 90mA
25mW = 100mA
30mW = 113mA
35mW = 120mW
40mW = 130mA
45mW = 140mA
50mW = 150mA
55mW = 165mA (so your 170 should be around 58mW with this lens). 43mW with an acrylic lens.
60mW = 180mA
65mW = 190mA
70mW = 200mA
75mW = 210mA
80mW = 220mA
85mW = 240mA
90mW = 260mA
95mW = 270mA
100mW = 280mA
113mW = 360mA
Took a chance and went up to 380mA and it was at 113mW only kept it there for about 5 seconds. Seems quite robust to me:)
The voltage was up in the low 7's if I remember correctly by the 100mW reading.

50mW = 190mA with a standard AixiZ plastic lens

Okay thanks man. and the doide was burned out anyway sadly thats why when i was trying to remove it from the heat sink it got crushed. Thanks!

yea I don't know where the hell this guy came from...
USAbro? hehehe

Well, this leaves me trying to decide whether to push it for 100mW or not...

Correcting the above as I must have had the lens in backwards as it will infinity focus:) Edited that out. Both lenses will focus fine;)
Hmmmm all the GB lenses give me a dot with a thin side bar on one side. The Acrylic don't and of course a 3-element doesn't either. G-2 has the same dot with thin bar

I see you said you have it in a copper heat-sink. Did you finish the build in a C6 or are you still messing with it?

I need to go lay down but I'll get back to it tomorrow and see if I can actually see a color difference between it a 5mW or less and my 3mW 520nm and my 40+mW 515nm. Think it's going to be really hard to tell though.

i was using it as a test heat sink. I have a bunch of them. idk what im gonna do with it yet.. ha.
I have been building those spirograph "projectors" and i think ide like to put this guy in it!!
Try it out for a few hours and see if it lasts.
Thanks for posting this info.
I got my LPM from RHD so im assuming its already had some good use.
So im about to crack a beer and do some laser playin before I go to the "big" show!!

edit: I was gonna rep ya pete but i gotta spread more laser love.. hehe!

Must Spread Rep Around.

This should some how be tagged to a post with the diode name in the title. Someone with the know how make that happen?

thank you so much for being our pioneer :P mind if i use this data?

Thanks for sharing it.

About that 9mm , I usually turn them at around 2.3A and they hold up around 3.1W for a long time. Probably just bad luck. I have killed many of these by other stupid accidents.

:beer:

Like I mentioned, it's just one of those things that happens and it comes with the hobby. I'm already looking at running a 515nm at a 100mW lol.
The info. I provided on the diode is for anyone. Realized that I probably should have taken the readings with just an acrylic lens but at the same time many in the GB also bought lenses.
I'll take a couple pics of the dot so everyone can see what I mean when you use a G type lens (not sure what we call the lenses from the GB so someone post it so I can refer to it properly please) vs the acrylic and 3 element. All the lenses I tried can focus just fine so it's not like you can't just swap lenses.
Obviously I didn't bother writing down the exact numbers in my testing but they are accurate enough. In other words I didn't bother saying 75mW = 211.34mA.
I haven't tested the second one and don't know how much of a variation diodes will have. I did take those measurements one after the next so once again, the diode endured. That last 360mW reading was me watching the Ophir reading to see if the mW would fold back but I got too edgy when I was up that high in current so I stopped and have no plans to do that again.
