Default Re: GB: 4$ heatsinks, 1.5$ aluminum modules AND more!

so what are the dimensions for the both heat sinks?
I'm shopping to see if they may fit in other hosts without modifying. Just length and smaller and larger diameter would be nice to know.

I knew going into this that it was going to take forever, but it's worth the incredible price! As long as they get to me around July 10th I'll be okay.

Thanks AnthoT for organizing another excellent group buy!

My GB SOP is to link in my OP the great sticky made by Dave in the group buy forum.

Read and heed- no host of GB can do a lot about manufacture times and shipping waits. Un-needed stress is caused by those jumping up an down in the back seat of the car going: " Are we there yet-? are we there yet-? HOW soon-- I want it ,LIKE, yesterday!!"..
GB are, for sure, not for everybody.
also.......
do not sign up for a GB if you think you may have issues coming up with your $$.
Likewise if you insist on paying early that gives you NO right to complain about 'the wait'-...questions that require a crystal ball to answer are never helpful.

And prolly one of the main reasons some never host a second GB-

AND, you must know, understand and be OKay with the fact that every GB carries some inherint risks and PLZ do be so dumb to think all risks are covered by the host-- especially GBs that require money and items to cross borders.. I only use the best shipper & options I can get-- like DHL Express- saving a little by using cheap options is foolish..
-just sayin' .....haks dos centavos..

I choose FedEx international Priority its usually 3 days including Saturdays but with my last group buy it got held at customs 3 days... But I don't go cheap on the shipping it's just a way to make it go a bit faster if you have good shipping. But I understand & this group of people have been really patient so far

Also dpup if the S4 takes the C6 heatsink then yes, it will fit

Ugh oh. Well, I think I just found a problem...

According to those drawings the internal diameter of the hole for the aixiz is 11.99mm. I was under the assumption these should actually be 15/32 diameter. I just measured a bunch of my heatsinks, and they all look to have a smaller internal diameter.

I don't think a ~0.08mm difference will matter much

lol.15/32
you just have to drop the module on the floor to get the 15/32 snug fit

My machinist tells me lots of tricks. If something is snug, put one in the freezer and warm the other one. You can actually get a very good thermal transfer when you start getting to press fit specs.

Other tricks, obviously astro-glide. Best lube there is! You should see some of the things that can be forced in with that stuff!

And fine sandpaper wrapped around the module and gently rotated to lessen the diameter until it fits.

If your module is not big enough in diameter and it feels you aren't getting a snug fit you can do some tricks there too...

First, wrap that thing up!

In a pinch, put a SMALL dot of super glue on the module and cut a thin piece of Aluminum foil. Attach it to the dot of superglue and then wrap a couple of times around the module until it is big enough around to fit more snugly. Then add another small dot of superglue and cut it off.

This will NOT result in an ideal situation, and I wouldn't do that for a 2W build. But for a lower power build where heat transfer is necessary but not critical, it will work. You can't make the module snug enough to fit TIGHT this way, but you can get it to sit in place correctly and tighten it in with the set screw.

The set screw is also a way to inject arctic thermal glue into the gap between the module and heat sink. Again, not ideal but under OEM circumstances it will work.

Default Re: GB: 4$ heatsinks, 1.5$ aluminum modules AND more!

Yup that sums it up tsteele, or just by putting some thermal paste between module & heatsink fixes it, I do it wether it's a tight fit or a loose fit

Obviously you have never come across WET Platinum . If it gets anywhere but where its supposed to be people may die from slips and falls.

But all jokes aside we all use thermal paste no mater what.

Side note, my kid got into the wet platinum and that's why I now have accidental death insurance.
