It sounds like there are major issues with the 500. I'm going to email Kath and let her know - though I'm sure you both have already.

Plexus, I'll be curious to know how they deal with your case. At a peak of 550, and an AVG of 451, you're right above the low end of a 10% +/- on the power rating. I was re-reading the FireDragon listing pages, and you know that they recommend a 20 second duty cycle? I was a little surprised to see that. However, within a 20 second time frame, you might actually have an AVG above 500?

Regardless, this is all very disappointing on the 500 front :(

just sent an email to LPKath and one to customer service. Does anyone recall the discounted price of the 250mw? I would consider a partial refund of the difference of the two....I am convinced I received one of the 250mw lasers based on my numbers so far. If not the 500mw is a total flop. when I compare the beam with it and my LaserPointerPro $217 laser it fails there too....the cheaper laser has a better beam and less splash. It is also much more stable. So far mine is a dog with fleas....I am beginning to lose faith in green lasers....

The 250 was actually a different host, was it not?

@ everyone... can you please check the module number on your lasers. IIRC the 500mW version is the ED504. My 300mW version has the model number ED155. You may have got a 300mW version...

Also, does anyone have a mW rating on the bubble wrap that came with their lasers?

My 500mW is LD054 i think from memory and mine came in one red bubble pack with no indicator on what power it is like yours did

Mine came in a clear bubble pack in a plain cardboard "box" that was kinda weird shaped and very poor quality cardboard (brittle and flaky)...where is this serial number located on the Laser?

Also, the end cap on mine hangs...not crossthreaded but sticky and tight, so tight that I couldn't get it to unscrew from about halfway out (unscrewed) and when I tried to put the tork on it with both hands the fron barrel began to unscrew twisting the sicker off with it.....now my sticker is screwed up too. I finally had to put it in a vice (very well padded I might add as to not scratch the laser) and use some channel locks and climbers webbing to unscrew it. i put a drop of machinist oil in the threads and worked it in and out a few times and then cleaned the threads out real good with a cotton cloth, re oiled it a little and not it screws better but still not real smooth like my other one.

I'm on my wife's laptop, just put the baby down and can't get to the office computer without risking waking the baby or I would post those images to image shack. will do it in the morning sometime before I head off to work....

what bugs me too about this laser is the switch...dos anone else have the same issue with the switch? It's like a "turbo" feature.....when you just turn it on and don't touch the switch it operates at about 70% then if you press the switch down firmly it jumps to 100% output.....(or maybe it's 100% then jumps to 130%)....my other similar laser doesn't do this at all.

out for the night, gotta get some zzzzz.....

You have to remove the front head of the laser. The model number will be taped on to the module head.

Hmm it's really strange how inconstant these are... My threads are awesome! The laser is very high quality and there are no issues that others are finding..

Still wondering of anyones switch has the "turbo mode" I mentioned above?

Anyone here using a Laserbee USB2.5? When I save the image it saves fine and when I try to download it to the forum it says it's too big....any idea how to save it in a format that is small enough for the forum. I am a member of another forum where depending on your donation status you are allowed more options including the ability to upload larger files...any idea if that's the case here at LPF...

I didn't have time to post to image shack before I headed off to work this morning so I will definitely do it when I get home at 5pm. Sorry for all the delays.

I don't have the Laser with me now but just for clarification...the serial number...is it under the very front cap where the shutter is or do I need to get into the body of the laser where I'd have to remove the sticker?

Thanks,
Jeff

I ordered a 500mw one and it came in a pink bubble wrap with 500mw rating as a sticker on it? But bobhaha, it seems like u got the same thing as me... i suspect that u and i got the same model even though i paid for the 500mw and u paid for the 300mw. i feel like i got conned out of my money :/

In fact, bobhaha u might have gotten the 500mw version by mistake?? I am not sure though...

I doubt it. The model I received has very distinct traits that others have observed in their 300mW version.

I also think the bubble wrap was used as extra padding and that's all they had laying around. The laser was taped up in the first pink bubble wrap, then was simply slipped into the second one which had the 500mW sticker on it.

Lastly my module number is different to Azzman's who has the 500mW version.

Mine has the distant trait of output in line with a 300mw....I have tried and tried to hit the 420 peak I got the first time and now I can barely top 400....maybe I just got a defective one, I dunno but I don't like what I paid for....still no response from Lath or the store either....
Does everyone elses button glow blue when armed?

For those of you with under-spec units, you're not basing your results on the included battery are you? (or on similarly cheap Trustfire/Ultrafire etc cells?)

If I LPM some of my FireDragons with those cells, they always measure much lower than when I use real AW IMRs, or Samsung cells, etc.

One of my Firedragons pulls almost 3A of tailcap current (shocking, but it does). Even 18650s can't all handle that.

It's true... You can see a massive bottle neck... take these LPM results for example....

This is the laser using high end GTL batteries...

FireDragon_LPM.jpg

This is low end GTL batteries....

Lasersman%20300mW%20532nm%20GTL.bmp

This was a used laptop battery.... no name brand 18650

They are all fully charged and work fine, but some batteries work better than others in high current draw scenarios. My firedragon for example pulls 2.61A from the tailcap... that's a lot :/
