He didn't lose the diode, why would he cough up 535$ of his OWN money to cover someone elses mistake? Stopping this debate is in no way worth 535$. Andy needs to step up and fix what he broke.

Edit: Who the heck keeps changing the tags, let me know so I can rep you

It's why I mentioned Andy also. Reason why I included ARG is because he did send it to him. I see that Andy is active on another forum, PL, and isn't known mostly by LPF members. I'm sorry but as I said he and Andy can end all of this with one single gesture. I'm not debating who is right or wrong but rather gentlemen, who can stop all of this. Those two and those two only have that power.

I have to say RHD makes a good point that agruing is not solving anything. Ill try to play nice aswell.
CDBEAM, sorry about the brick comment I was just pissed off that I spent all the time going through your posts then you just glossed over mine with no regard. Its an open forum you can type however you want.

Mac, we have a fundamental difference of opinion here but you offering to pay for the diode is a very generous thing. You have definitely earned my respect there, although I still think berating ARG, mocking his integrity, and demanding payment for something that is hardly, if at all, his fault is wrong. That is why I said you guys were acting like c*nts, not because you were "Standing up to a challenge" as you put it. As far as Andy goes, he is the one most at fault here and it would be a good gesture for him to provide a new diode, but I don't believe he should be required to do so. What If he can't spare the money? Would you prefer he buy a new diode just to be given away randomly for a drawing that was not even the point of the thread (or guaranteed in it) than be able to buy his kids birthday presents, or even put food on the table? That may not be a reality for you, but it certainly is for a lot of people in this world. I guess this all just brings us back to the difference of opinion though.

My basis for saying that ARG is one of the greatest guys in this forum is the amount of his time and effort he puts into it expecting no gain. I think essentially everyone in this thread but you would agree there. He has provided more open source projects, writeups, information, progress, affordability than almost anyone else here. This thread is a prime example. He offered his time, expertise, equipment to gather data on a new diode without getting anything in return.

Also, one thing everybody keeps mentioning is that ARG sent the diode without telling anyone. That is flat out WRONG. Look at bloompyles post here: http://laserpointerforums.com/f55/gb-1w-520nm-diode-information-giveaway-86766-31.html#post1312487

About the tags, Ill admit I put one a while back but wont say which haha :shhh:

FWIW - a little pack of stuff I put together FS. Whatever it pulls in can go towards this.

http://laserpointerforums.com/f39/fs-bunch-stuff-hosts-flashlights-parts-90266.html

If the diode shows up before then, and the FS proceeds donation is unnecessary, I'll do something else productive / useful with the funds - like maybe buy a new BR drive to test the diode in, or something like that (depending on how much that lot of stuff sells for).

Arg, benmwv, bloompyle, and all others to whom I've offended,

I acknowledge having made unprovoked personal attacks detrimental to all involved, and thereby offer my sincere apology for having done so. I will commit to supporting the effort for solving this problem in a fair and just manner, and will do so in the spirit of mutual cooperation. What is done is done, but I do appreciate rhd for having stepped up in calling for the ugly to stop and to challenge us all to now work toward putting this behind us.

Edit: "unprovoked personal attacks" in which I accept the derogatory accusations I made were uncalled for and undeserving by those targeted.

It's quite alright. We're all human and we sometimes go overboard when defending our opinions. What makes us good people is seeing this fault and making it right afterwards ;)

2 things -

1) @ madmacmo

You've really shown a high quality of character here stepping up to the plate and offering to fix the situation. I respected you before but now even more so.

2) The person who should be talking the most is talking the least. It's been more than a few days. Andy you owe all of us more frequent communication, your current rate is ridiculous given the situation.

Im not involved in this GB but spent over a hour reading this thread anyways as it looked to long to be a by the book GB, I thought you guys might appreciate a neutral outside the GB opinion, If not then disregard my post :)

From the outside looking in this does look like it was handled poorly. RHD is indeed correct in that im sure there are a lot of participants that are keeping there mouths shut and just sitting on the sideline watching the big guns argue about it and not voicing there own opinions and like RHD suggested this will be bad for the forums and leave a bad taste in some participants mouths IMO.

It appears this Andy guy completely dropped the ball, it is no one elses fault IMO, I don't understand why anyone would be jumping on ARG about it. Sure he picked the guy but anyone with even half a brain would have handled shipping the diode better than Andy.

If anyone is going to cough up a replacement it should be the sole person responsible for it getting lost in a totally and completely negligent way(Andy). I mean seriously who ships $1000 diode internationally with no tracking? that's almost unbelievable and is probably making some people think he just kept it, I know that thought was the first through my head after reading that.

Anyways that's my opinion after reading the whole post with no personal attachment to the GB. I hope you guys come up with a solution that works for all and there is no hard feelings for any participants. Good luck.

I just made a second installment of $250 to Jordan to hold against the new diode that I have arranged to obtain if the other one does not show up. Objecting to me paying for a replacement diode is now a mute issue.

Guys, it is time just to let this play out. Rehashing it anymore will do none of us any good. In the mean time, I for one have found plenty of other avenues of interest and time wasting endeavors.

Cool. Although you putting in $500 is a pretty intensely lopsided funding of this effort.

It looks like I'll have around $100 to contribute based on the FS thread.

So how much is left from the GB funds themselves?

Has anyone contacted Andy directly to A) find out what he found out at the post office, and B) confirm whether he's contributing anything ?

There's the hundred still left over from the GB as well. The initial condition was to donate leftovers to LPF, but if no one objects I think we should send that to you as well for the replacement.

The money you have collected will be sufficient, and I do appreciate it. No more than that is needed nor am I willing to accept more than that.

Cool with me sending to DTR directly? Will he know what it's for?

arg, rhd,

Won't you both hang on to those funds. That way if the diode shows up DTR doesn't have to mess with multiple refunds, and I like your plan of donating any unused amount to LPF.

Guess we're just waiting on Andy with news from the post office then.

Okay - I'll hang on to it until we hear from Andy.
