Can't believe I never saw this thread. If there are still spots, i'll throw in $40.

The diode itself was purchased a couple months ago. This isn't really a raffle, I'd imagine most people donating to the effort didn't donate with the sole intention to win the diode. I can't speak for everyone here but the idea was to chip in to purchase a diode so it could be put through several tests, everyone donating would then be privy to the data. Once the testing is finished one lucky person who donated will be drawn to "win" the diode for keeps. I might be willing to sell some of my slots to you however.....talk to me after the drawing.....

I haven't been following the thread lately ARG, has the drawing date been set yet or has it already passed?

Draw has not happened yet. No date has been set, though it should be soon. Just waiting to hear back from the guy who has the diode, making sure he's avaliable to ship it out once the winner is drawn.

Please excuse me but I need to vent my frustrations with this GB.

The time that this is taking is ridiculous, when I joined in I thought this would take a month before the diode was in the winners hands, now we're into month 6. ARG I'm not blaming you, Canada post didn't help either, but it really shouldn't have been sent away anonymously, 31 people own this diode and most of us don't know who has it. Maybe there is a good reason for this member to remain anonymous, I can't think of a good reason.
Whoever has it is reminding me of the JLSE incidents. Not enough communication and taking way longer that promised. I don't know what he's got going on but even in the busiest times of my life when I've held an obligation to someone I've prioritized my time and followed through. There is no excuse for it to be taking this long.

Vent complete -

I don't even have a chance at the diode, (didn't contribute) and I too, am getting a wee bit pissed :p

The diode has already been in countless builds. I though the point of this GB was to also get ahead of the game by pooling funds.

Now we are behind by months :(

We just need updates, not prolonged silence.

Thanks

:wtf: I did get the important data that most people wanted and I got it fast, power, wavelength, current, voltage, temperature, graphs ect. All we are waiting on is the optical tests from the 3rd party (which may not happen) but this is by no means "behind by months."
The point of this GB is to get data that is not given on the data sheet (over drive current and wavelength) such that people can safely put the diode into their builds. This part has been completed.

I completely agree, and I would not have sent the diode out if I knew it was going to take this long (or not happen at all). I assumed (wrongly) that because it was being sent to a veteran member that we could rely on him to get the data in a timely fashion.
I can tell you that there is a good reason for this member to remain anonymous, if there wasn't a good reason I wouldn't have agreed to it.

I'm sending him another PM and email. I hope we can get this draw underway soon.

I have a suggestion -

You should message the individual who has the diode and tell him/her that if they don't respond by Thursday and confirm that they'll agree to ship the diode off, you'll have to share their identity, out of fairness to the diode's owners (the forum).

That takes care of a bunch of things - it encourages him/her to actually respond to you, it gives you a way to calm concerns by passing along their identity if Thursday comes and they haven't, and it gives the forum a firm date on which something will happen.

It's win/win, and will help keep the GB positive by minimizing further frustration on everyone's end.

Id rep you if i could. This is a very good suggestion, and i am in favor of it.

CDBEAM=======> Off the CHAIN=======> Lite'em UP !!!!

Out of control !!! "Mystery Meat" Tester !! hahaha....Throw some different lenses in front of it....do some power tests.....slap a set of Anamorphics down beam....and measure with and without prisms.....25' (7.6M) away...IT IS THAT SIMPLE !!!

No " Man onda Moon" stuff here !!!

If ANY member....er....ah....member with a name pulled this crap......the villagers would be out with pitch forks !!! I am surprised it has taken so long to reach " Critical Mass"

And now....the Cherry on the Cake....the " Mystery Meat" tester.....MAY not do the test...
yea....WTH indeed....?????

Like I said.....if ANY of us pulled this BS.....we would hear about it....and we should hand our head in shame !!!

As of this point....In my opinion...screw the test !! and the tester !! Do the drawing.....stick a fork in this thing....and call this " exercise" DONE !!!

Aye....Honestly, i don't know why the diod edidnt go to YOU, CDBEAM, for testing. You were my personal choice, but instead, it got sent to mystery man in mystery land, which apparently does not have internet.

Seriously, I'm not trying to be a dick to you ARG, I actually respect you a lot, and not only for organizing this whole thing. There is just a point where enough is enough...Seriously, the OP was made 6 months ago! The diode has dropped over 300$ from its original price- im not saying we all deserve a refund, screw that. its just been long enough. I revoke my previous statement, and say tell the tester to wrap up NOW, like within the next day, or pull the plug. No one needs this long to test a single diode with different optics and such. A week, sure.

Post #295 of this thread said:
Diode is on the way to the optical tester.

Anyone want to assign each person a number for each $10 they donated?

3 months ago. If i were the tester, i would hope that my name doesn't get shared, cause frankly, this is embarrassing.

Agreed.

ARG, I think you're one of the coolest guys around this forum but at this point this is just absurd... I'd have preferred if the laser had been pushed to the extreme until it died - in fact I think I said this back then :p

Whoever is testing should be ashamed, specially in a forum where everyone is quick to bury any Chinese store that takes 1 month to ship their lasers.
