The beam looks good on the one I set up with a G1 lens or 9mm lens and better with a 3 element lens. To me it is just as good as a 9mm 445nm diode and maybe better.

Doc,

See here...

445LD with Anamorphic Prisms on a Jayrob DIY

This was way back in 2010 !!! And I think was the first application of Anamorphic Prism's to a pointer !! Woo Wooo !!

I do not recall any other use of Anamorphic prism's ...other than the Tridentis build...perhaps I am wrong...I really cannot remember another.

Adding correction optics does add some baggage to the front end of a pointer....BUT....that is the price ya pay for correcting the beam. SOooo...it all boils down to what is acceptable...

I dunno....at 2 miles out...the three beams of the Tridentis may wander like the eyeballs of " Igor " in Young Frankenstein !!! I still have not verified the amount of off-axis separation between the three beams.....ALL looks real good at 100'....and at infinity.

The point is...WHAT is acceptable...in a non-perfect world ???? An individual call for sure !!!....But...As I noted somewhere else....if the NDG-7475 is a " Mr Magoo" Line Maker...give it a pair of glasses...../OO\ !!! That CAN be done !!

CDBEAM=======>

Note: Thank for the info Rick !!! What does the beam geometry look like at 25 ' (7.62M ) with the collimation lenses you have tried ???

You mentioned "three beams", was there a build someone did with three beams closely approximated or something? I have considered doing something similar with three different colored beams essentially touching each other side by side in a hand held. Not sure if the effect would be as I imagine but it theoretically sounds pretty neat.

Well...Yes there was ! Glad you asked...5 bucks in da mail to U tomorrow !! hahaha.....See here

Tridentis 6.7W of Blue Beauty

This unit is a beam combiner....where the beams are all together along the same axis...Are they in PERFECT alignment....well...there is no perfection here on earth !!! The beams are aligned very well....and I was referring to the fact that the alignment was not perfect in the last post....as with all optics....there are trade-offs and compromises !!

As far as doing three beams side by side....Someone has done that too...a very beautiful build....with three separate heads...RGB IIRC... I will do a search...but the beams had some small distance between them...and they were not touching one another.

Now...one could use Red,Green and Blue diodes in the Tridentis design....and the beams would be stacked....like III...like a layer cake !!! It would be an interesting effect...and I would really like to see it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Coherent light in a Neapolitan presentation !!!

Optical correction and beam combining are my thing !!! I have done a lot with projectors over at PL.....but as of late...I have turned my attention to trying some projector methods as applied to the Hand Held format !! Very challenging due the size demands. And LPF is a blast !!! and a great place to feel the spirit of passion for the hobby !!

Now to make it real interesting we ought to allow people to sell their numbers to each other. I'm really fond of my birth year 69, I might be willing to pay a premium for that number.

CDBEAM- I checked out your Tridentis, really really exceptional build. Did you custom build every piece on that thing? Particularly the mount for the two mirrors? I've got a friend who has a few x-axis automated mill/lathe machines that I believe will accept several different types of CAD code. Sorry if I don't have the lingo down when referring to these machines. All I know is they are just about able to create anything by uploading the design into the machine. Was curious if you still had your CAD files on this build (if that's what you did) and if you would share them. I suspect it wouldn't be too difficult to come up with my own similar design. I'm thinking the most difficult part to reproduce would be the mirror mount. I'd love to try to do something similar with three different colors with a lower power. I'm thinking the newest B1 520, a Mistu 500mw red, and a m140 would work nicely together.
It would be a ways off until I would find the time for this but it's definitely something I want to achieve someday. Thanks for sharing it.

Doc...I did NOT machine the mirror mounts....Why bother... they are available from LaserShow Parts....for under $ 20.00 ea.....My take is to use what is off the shelf....IF it works....or can be slightly modified to work on a given design...go with it....as that will likely save time and $$$$...and the design work is done for you...and it is a proven concept...a winner all the way'round !!

I have NO CAD driven End Mill Machine....just a TOO small of a End Mill and " Crankin the handles" to machine the stock. And...yes...I do have many drawings detailing various components on the Tridentis. Many things were custom...some were not. The ONLY way to approach a custom build....is to use CAD...moving things around on the computer screen first !!! EVEN then...there are thing that do not work...as per the plan!!!

And concerning the High Power Tri-color/Stacked Combiner you have in mind...well... I would consider this a High Power....in that you plan to use Multi vs.Single emitter LD's...unless you plan to correct the Mitsui P-73 BEFORE stacking the beams...you will end up with one bar shape for the Red and the Blue and Green will be slightly rectangular... That is the nature of things.

We need to wait and see what the new Green and Red LD's look like JUST going thru a Collimation lens. That will determine if we can do a high power Tri Color ...with a reasonable size !!!!!!! ??? We may get away with combining the three LD's....and shoot'in the stackage thru a single set of Anamorphic Prisms...as was done on the Tridentis ..Dunno ????....That may bring things fairly under control.

One thing is for sure...A high power tri-color will be a complicated and expensive build...but...likely can be done.

CDBEAM=======>

Oh yea...COMBINERS RULE !!!

Default Re: GB: 1W 520nm diode information/giveaway

Sorry just saw your ? The beam looked like the same size as 9mm 445nm diode to me.I did not get time to test much before I sold it .I found
you need glasses on if it hit a wall at 15'' where with a 5w or 6w 445nm (I) do not need them. It seems a lot brighter then a 6w 445nm if you hit some thing.

CDBEAM=======>

Note: Thank for the info Rick !!! What does the beam geometry look like at 25 ' (7.62M ) with the collimation lenses you have tried ???

Default Re: GB: 1W 520nm diode information/giveaway

RHD is running a murder GB for a potential new 405nm diode.
No one objected to the suggestion that we put the left over money towards the 3.5W 445nm diode GB, but that is not moving anywhere.

Anyone object to me sending the remainder to RHD for the 405nm diode?

I'd rather see it go there.
