Will this be the thread DTR will post results in? Cant wait to see the outcome. If he has it listed on his site, any1 know if he ordered a few by chance and has them in stock?

Dunno where DTR will post his results, or if he will post results with a pricey diode.

This thread is where I'll post the results of the diode with wavelength readings and power readings :p

Did DTR get his from Nichia, or some unknown source? Are these indeed coming down in price-or did he just get free batches of them from Nichia like the other vendors?

Other vendors got "engineering samples" and they paid for them I am pretty sure :p

DTR must have gotten his from somewhere else, Nichia does not like their diodes being out in hobbyists hands.

Oh, I just read the other thread, O-like is selling them for a tad over 700$. And I remember reading test batches were sent to different vendors. I dunno...and indeed they don't like us hobbyists having their diodes....wish I knew why.

They don't like us having them because the profits they can gain from hobbyists is nothing compared to companies who buy diodes by the kilo unit, it's not worth their time to sell to hobbyists or hobbyists vendors. Plus we incorporate them into devices that are illegal in most countries, and very dangerous.

We're just a nuisance to them.

Update!
As I'm sure you all have seen DTR has the diodes, the GB one is on the way. :) Should get here Friday.

Looks like it's going to be a bit longer :(

It's still in the USA, hasn't even passed customs yet.

Ahhh nahhh don't tell me that... it would ruin my whole Friday :yabbem:

Still cool *''DOH''* when it get's a few day's later...

I'm so excited about this grreeenn ''forest'' 520nm diode  after having a bit of a taste of it.... but 1W ... who would have thought.

THis will be so impressive next to a 1W 532nm handheld wich would show another person how complicated 532nm actually is... but todate so cheap to make. ''Still talking $... figures''

When this diode settles in and is no longer special,... my gosh what will be next!

Lasers, Lasers, lasers.....Like I said very cool stuff.

Hey ARG, how were you planning to give out the data? Email? I don't recall you mentioning exactly what tests you plan to run on it, would you mind letting me know? I doubt there would be anything you not doing I would want or need but I am just curious.

Have a good rest of your weekend,
JM

I'll post a link to a spreadsheet or website where the data will be publicly published. The raw data and graphs will both be available.

I collect temperature, voltage, current, wavelength, and optical power.
From those I can get input power and efficiency as well.

I also do some hot/cold tests to test for wavelength shifts.

This diode may also be sent to another member here after the tests I do for some beam correcting tests, as I have a limited collection of anamorphic prisms and cylindrical lens'
