Just to add my $0.025USD here on the 473s. Honestly my initial thought when I saw how high these read is they have to be leaking IR and I meant to note that in my review along with a couple other things I forgot. I was going to test mine right after it arrived but work and vacation didn't leave time much for it. I plan on testing it over the weekend and report back. Honestly as long as it still puts out between 10-30mw of 473 I'll still be happy because that's what it was advertised at. Will I be a bit bummed if it turns out to be the case? Yeah but it's still a helluva laser.

A new line of lasers from JL? Great. I just talked my wallet out of hiding after the last one I bought....

Anyhow to go along with what Hak said about Western Union i used them to pay for mine using my credit card and the "kind folks" at BoA decided that was equivalent of a cash advance and charged me their BS fee for it so watch for that. Other than that I'd have no problem using WU again to purchase another laser from JL.

I don't mean to jump in here, or "gang up" on someone...but I have to emphatically agree with Hak here. I am relatively new to this forum as well, but one thing i found-out early was that JEtlasers, in particular, Gray, are rare examples of a company and sales manager who very sincerely care that their customers are satisfied. I would wager that at the time you wrote your opinion (which is one of the freedoms allowed in open forums), you had not actually interacted with Gray personally. The man has an almost scary tendency to err on the side of caution, and could not be more accommodating and willing to help. He spent real time with me, a newbie with lots of dumb questions, and never made me feel like a burden. I bought 2 lasers from him, and when i couldn't figure something out with the second one, he provided me with a 2 page personal email that solved the problem and more...If you were to read all the threads, even just in the last year, you would find that Gray and jetlasers receive more praise and gratitude from forum members than almost any body else. I'm sure it was a simple oversight, one that i know probably troubled gray very much, and to make an off-hand comment that jabs at his integrity was reckless...even i felt a pang of offense just to think someone would suggest he is anything but willing to provide only the best he can! In a competitive marketplace, small companies simply can't afford slander where it is not due...surely you aren't suggesting that JL would do something like this (no IR filters) intentionally to make their lasers look more powerful! That is downright offensive!

I respect your right to say whatever you need to here, but know that people stand by those who do right by them here...and Gray has done nothing less than right by me and hundreds more.

I subscribe to this thread, so that's the only reason i happened upon this little skiff...I'll stay out of it now...

I hope you have talked privately to Gray by now..i'm sure your opinion has changed if you have!

in your defense, your heart was in the right place warning other owners about IR leaks..that's a serious issue with dangerous possiblities...You are obviously a thorough consumer. I appreciate you lookin out :) I just think you worded your concerns in an overtly slanderous way...

I want some clarification on this. I am not sure if you are referring to me or EpicHam here. EpicHam made some strongly worded posts regarding Jetlasers, but as he does not own a PL-E Pro 473 hasn't the ability to perform tests.

If you are referring to me, I would like to point out that I have always spoken very highly of Jetlasers(ever since my first purchase with them in 2010), and will continue to do so. While i was the member who performed the IR tests on my laser, I made sure that the information was NOT posted in a slanderous manner. I have never condemned Gray or Jetlasers of wrong doing, all I did was point out the IR leakage and request clarification. Also, hakzaw1 and/or Gray were always the first people I have contacted regarding any issues because I know that one of them will always be ready to help. I just want to make sure no one thinks I am angry or slanderous. In all my dealings on the forums I have always done my utmost to maintain a calm, respectful tone and will continue to do so.

At any rate, my issues have been solved, and while I posted a closing statement and had a mod lock my review thread to prevent any more banter, I did not remember to post here indicating that it had been addressed and promptly solved by both Hak and Gray.

Sincerely,
Isaac

PS-I am trying to not post any between now and 8/25 but your post concerned me in that I do not want people thinking that I am speaking ill of anyone. So I will go delete some old posts to keep my post number the same but if you or any other people need to speak with me please PM me and I will be glad to talk with you...especially if my posts are still being misunderstood.

I guess I should come out of the bush on this one too.

Yes, I have never owned a JetLaser before , so it would be unfair of me AND to Jet Laser to condemn JetLasers out of nothing.

Yes, IR Leak problems are not only seen on Jet Lasers alone and there are many other far worse problems from other brands .

Yes , my wording was perhaps misused and I've already retracted by opinion out of the consideration of being misunderstood.

However, as always . I never give out opinions based out of intuition and have never slandered in my life.

Any how , I wish to express my apologies if the comment was seen as insulting .

This is all .

huh. that's sort of a passive-aggressive way to apologize--adding the definition of "slander" as though i was unaware of it's meaning and all... buddy, by definition, you saying that it was "shit" of them(JL) to deceive buyers into thinking they had gotten a "sweet deal" when in fact, as you blatantly implied, they were being sold IR radiation masked as overspec visible light..IS SLANDEROUS. it is untrue, and injurious to their reputation...big time! I'm just going off of the definition you so wittily threw at me.... I think i'll just take your attempt at an apology at face value, offer you best wishes, and wash my hands of this nonsense. I do have a good friend who means well, but always seems to rub people the wrong way--even when he's trying to be nice---and i'll just assume that this is a problem you two share. No hard feelings, and thank's for the English brush-up..I"m glad i still use some words properly.

I'll be honest with ya.

I was about to start throwing money out for a 473nm when I read that it was pumping 120mW even though it was sold as a 10-30mW.
However, when as the research went on , it appears that the IR output is what was attributing the reading after all.

It might not be intentional ,and by how you described Grey .
It probably isn't and its a honest to god mistake.
But as a consumer you can't help but feel as if you were misguided as to having a 120mW when only 30mW was visible.

And no , what I was saying was ,
It was a BAD move to sell lasers without checking for IR output at that price level.
On a cheap eBay pen , maybe , but not when you are dishing out weeks of saving.
THAT is what was bad.
Honest mistake , perhaps ,but still a serious oversight at such a price.

FORTUNATELY,
Jetlaser and Hak swiftly sorted out the problem and restored its reputation as a top notch company.
Yet, you can't wipe out the past .
Same as what I've said earlier, what is out there , is out there forever. Regardless of if I've deleted the comment or if it was remedied.

I've misworded ,yes , but the meaning is the same.
A mistake is a mistake .

Fair enough friend. Im glad gray and hak sorted it out. It does suck to get cornered on something you would take back if you could...and i really just wanted to defend someone i consider to be a friend(gray). I may be wrong, but i dont think they were advertising such high specs...people were just reporting them. If anything, your comments were just misdirected. It is great that you agreed the ir leaking was bad...just a bummer how you voiced it. But you did try and undo whatever damage your colorful opinions may have caused, and i really never wanted to get into it this far...so thanks for the entertaining banter, and for being humble enough to admit you were wrong to bash JL. Im sure in reality youre a decent lad, and if i ever run across you i'll buy you a hamburger and a hamms. Good night and take care!

I, too, over reacted.
sry
Perhaps it was due to the size of the french sign- and I did at first resist making ANY comment on it as, like many things, my interptation of the word in question is just my opinion. Ham could have NOT meant that is the worst way- it could have been - 'too bad i wanted to get one of those' or the other. BUT I will say this... you will find laser drop shippers selling many dozens of lasers both DPSS and diode that Know NOTHING about lasers at all. They are just widgets on a store room shelf if even that. Some merely take your money and get the real seller to ship for them.

Greens with IR filters- ?? if you ask some sellers IF you get a reply it may be asking what the hell IR is.

After a 40$ 532 pen laser died the very first night I used it- I contacted the China Seller about the duty/rest cycle that, quite clearly I was NOT following.

The reply weeks later was something like. 'We sell many lasers ,,no sell bicycles'

I agree that when a new order of IR filters arrived a few should be tested and thus not relying upon what JL got the last time. I have tested many JL 532s for IR leaks and found none- I no longer felt the need to do these every time but I regret making the assumption that the 473s had NO IR filter- I just did not occur to me that the filters bring used would be inferior. if a large batch of IR filter arrives from a formally trusted source should every one be tested.??I would say the majority of green DPSS lasers purchased from most sellers(who are not 'makers') do NOT have ANY filter good or bad.

Is this good/?/ of course not - does it make the lasers highly dangerous?- not very much IMO-with the low power pens .

you are not supposed to expose your eyes to ANY laser-

Also IIRC a different IR pump is used for 473. NOT the same as the one used for 532nm. For all I know this may mean a different IR filter would be required- it does not make much sense but I am NO expert.

ONE thing I do know.. this will never happen again- and I assure you that GRAY

( plz not grey or gary)
took this very seriously and feels very bad about it-

--remember this .....Gary is lead sales guy and LPF rep. ( & has done an OUTSTANDING job btw)- not the CEO(yet) and not one of the techs at JL that builds these. they are the ones that dropped the ball NOT Gray- but he still takes responsibility for this error as do I. i am very sorry to all in this and hope we can just move on and do better...

NOW about those new 'Equality' series- have you seen the pics at JETLASERS.org or the video that Lee, Guo and Carol made??

- SEXY !!!
And the perfect size to take everywhere.

I think i see a clip on it- so you can keep it secure in a pocket.
I CAN"T wait to see one in person!!

I was told a while back that a MINI Pro Pl-E was coming and I did not know that the design would stand out like this- I have a Pro Pl-D 635 nm 400mW nice!! and overspec and NO IR (lol- ) That price is a good one.

But know this; I will assume (until I know diff. ) that these are the 'C' Mount diodes
thus when un focused you will NOT just see a bigger round dot- you will see a boxish shape with faint wings. its the nature of the beast- not something 'wrong' or a reason to return as they(C mounts) all will be that way.

I will very soon have a larger case (not Pelican) but still nice.

That one holds more lasers & same prices. Pics SOON.
The Pelican line is well known world wide- lifetime warranty-O-Ring water proof and crush proof- simply the best cases made and NEVER cheap- mine are NOT brand new but you will see nothing that will say that - they look new to me.

Nice design, although I might favor the PL-E pro more :p but any idea on when the new IR filters come in?

Btw, thanks to LtKernelPanic for the info

^^^ yeah BUt just where will you keep a ProPl-e ?? they are monsters-
certainly not a 'pocket' laser AND If I were a cop and saw you carrying a ProPl-E we for sure would be having a 'chat' even if you did not turn it on.
SCARY big-
Even MO Bigger and more scary is adding the second battery tube to the frist gen Pl-Es AND the 10X bean expander to the front. NOW were are talking TEXAS BIG!! Jl has just added a VERY nice nylon holster for ONLY 10$ additional when buying a Pl-E .
I have info and pics in a post above.

I have one here and it is JUST what the doctor ordfered.

can't wait to show it off to my cop friends- they WILL want one of these bad boys.

I predict all duty cops will have a laser on thieir belts in time..
So the nylon holster will be a must-have for these. BUT not a laser sight type .

Or they will have one of these comes in 500(~$800) to 800($1200) mW 532nm

Prolly Ir filtered but WHY??
Dazzler Laser Gun

btw..
The two EQs in that pic looks like two different sizes but I think the smaller pic is just from a greater distance. all EQ series are 200mm X40mm(AFAIK)..

'EQ' series. .. hmm I like to sound of that- lest see if that nic will stick!??

Ask about our soon to be release box set- buy 5 or more EQ series in ONE purchase and get a better price!!

I dearly wanted to own a box set of Ti-Bs AFAIK only a few or just ONE member ended up with a set RGB of the Ti-B series. I DO have the G and the B but no red. :-(

JL offers R-(in 635nm) G (532nm & 520nm) B (445nm and 473nm) Br (or V) at 405nm and 808nm IR.( NOT IR FILTERED AFAIK!!!!!) >(*U*)<--

ATM you can only get the 'box set' by ordering thru me.

yep. those are sweet. the machining on the metal is futuristic artistic and i would love to place one of them on my mantle just to show visitors that i've got my finger on the pulse! I too love my PRO..but the PRO is also a full handful of awesome...this is a more manageable size. Hak, i think i would be interested in one of your pelicans...or whatever you make to fit a pro when the time comes. I hope you all are having a great day, and thanks for the civil back-and-forth last night! it's good to argue, it keeps a man honest, and it's even better to conclude in a civil manner. props us.

Hello everybody (I'm new).

Is the group-buy still going on? I'm very interested in getting one of the PL-E Pros in 532nm, probably in the 400mw range. They look awesome! Interested in the accessories too, the extra barrel, batteries & charger, and also a holster if there are ones sized for it (its pretty big!). Also some nice looking safety goggles in the proper wavelength range. The PL-E pro has IR shielding, yes? Or do I need to be extra sure that any goggles I get also shield in the IR range?

The pictures people have been posting look awesome, really excited to get in on that action.

Hak, do I order through you, or Gray or some combination of the two? Based on the thread, it seems like you guys tag-team it.

Also IIRC a different IR pump is used for 473. NOT the same as the one used for 532nm. For all I know this may mean a different IR filter would be required- it does not make much sense but I am NO expert.

The pump is a 808nm. It is just a lot more powerful, because typical efficiencies for this wavelength are around 1.5%, 2%. It pumps an ND:YAG, that lases at 946nm. That then, is frequency doubled to 473nm, commonly using a BBO crystal.

Anyways the IR filter should be HR to 808nm AND 946nm. I don't know if common IR filters (HR 808nm and 1064nm) would block 946nm, but I think so. Maybe not 99%, because its not the filter center wavelength.

If one could test it... it would be great. The pump for a 100mW laser (at high efficiencies, properly made resonating cavity, temperature stable), could be higher than 3W so beware.

You are right man - 473nm usually uses a LBO crystal.
The percentage of IR leakage varies, depending on the pumping method- some methodsin dpss 532nm leak a lot when the efficiency is like 60% with 808nm converted to 1064nm, the other 40% is either absorted by Nd or diffused thus there is some 808nm leaking out.

For 150nm 532nm we usually use 500mW 808nm - 500mW 532mw with 2w or 2.5w - the testings we made upon all PL-E Pro 532nms showed there is very little ir leakage before adding the ir filter - and when ir filter added, there is almost no ir power.

Sure the higher the pumping efficiency, the less ir leaks out. There is also AR coating on cavity lens - so the ir is less when pumped right.

The ir filter for 473nm is no different from that for 532nm since it filters the infrared range, not merely 808nm, 808nm or 946nm,
Will talk soon - thanks all you guys. :thanks:
