I have to say, I've never seen a module that looks like that before. Are you sure that a brass module like this one is not pressed into that aluminum threaded piece?

How much are you looking to charge for just the module?

We might have confused each other.
I bet they are two basically different assemblies. Not as simple as pressing it into the threaded piece.

The one you indicated in the pic is the one for lower powered lasers. The Nd:YVO4 and KTP crystals are glued together. We made some for the small laser modules like at ¤Mini Laser Modules, laser pointers, laser green, red laser pointers - Jetlasers. But we don't make higher power ones. For 532nm, the max we make is probably 50mw, while 100mw for 650nm.

The brass one might be incomparable to the aluminium one we use in PL-C, the one I linked in previous reply. The flat-flat cavity's stability is not as good as the flat-concave cavity. The crystal surface undergoes the deformation when LD temp. rises in operation. Thus easily comes thermal lensing effect. The beam profile quality is not good enough or there might be the high-order mode.

I'm not pro and sorry for the confusion if it just confuses us more.:beer:

The small crystals on those modules are TINY.

No way in hell they could hope to handle the power density that comes from a 2-3W pump.

These crystals die at about 200mW of output. Not idea.

The PL-C modules are probably similar to the O-Like high-powered modules:

These (like the Jetlasers module) have larger crystals which are individually heatsinked. They also feature an independent glass output coupler, helping to reduce distortion from thermal lensing.

The small brass modules top out at about 100 or so mW. Although the 150mW ones do exist, they're usually unstable and have short lives.

I agree with you on the whole. I shared the PICS of the PL-C module we used to apply till May this year. And we still use either aluminum or copper ones for now.

You're right. The glued crystals(Nd+ktp) might fit the lowered powered better, while the separate crystals assembly fit higher powered one to guarantee better heat flow and beam quality. The cni laser pointers also use the former type, but the optimized ones.

I guess no two manufacturers make the exactly same crystal assembly even if they use the same LD, crystals, optics, etc. It makes big difference when used by different engineers/teams. The tech varies. Even subtle variation may produce great differences. I remembered there had been several duplicates of Cni and Scitower lasers in China market three or four years ago, but they were soon revealed by some engineers in the mandarin forum(shoudian.com) that how different they are from original ones. They copied the look but could only copy the look other than anything inside and the quality. Moreover, people driven by profit dislike using the high-end components as well.

It's said that there is a kind of epoxy in US which is of very heat conductive electrically insulating compound. It may improve the heat flow or stability a lot when this ultra expensive epoxy is widely used.

Yes, that's usually the case.

I owned a 50mW module that died from crystal failure.

That's a picture showing the size of the crystals. They're tiny. No way in hell they could be driven at 300+mW and survive for long.

They also can crack and fall apart from heat related stress. In a handheld, that isn't a good thing.

This is also why you don't see pointers above 100 or so mW. You simply can't push any more power through the crystals without them breaking.

Besides, it's not hard designing a host around a properiatry module. Perhaps if they were in the O-Like form factor (a lot of the high-powered ones are) it'd be easier, but for a quality high-powered module it's not much work to gain quite a bit in terms of quality and stability.

Some additional JetL PGLs at 200, 250, and 300mWs are on the way to several members- testing and reviews will follow(from me at least ASAP) These should be posted very soon. Once a total on ten units is reached the GB will close in 48hrs. Any add-ons or late payments after that will be too late.

There are two reviews already posted on the 150mW model and other lasers from JETL-all very positive-- all overspec.

Gray has offered to pay me for the PP fees attached to the payments made to me for this GB. :thanks:

JETL uses Express shipping so I think that the PGLs and others will be in your hands in about 13 to 15 days from when the last PP clears my acct. :shhh:

The funds will Bank transfer from me to JETL===== the lasers should be in my hands about one week after the transfer.

I will test, inspect and meter all, send a report w/ meter photo to all and if you like what you see, put them and the free extras items into USPS Med. flatrate boxes with plenty bubble wrap and get them out the same day. All will have Del.Confirm #s.
Also insurance for those who want/pay for it. Taking into account the overspec, the shipping break and the free extras, IMO we are getting and $100+ break on these. I will cover the shipping at first- send a PM to each on the actual costs and you can PP me that cost in a PP 'gift' after they arrive to you.:beer:

:anyone: else want to get on the list??? those of us on it already are anxious to get these on the way. IMHO if you got one and treated it nice you could always sell it later and recoup your costs.

No way you could build one like these with ALL the features at a lower cost. Not a 532nm anyway.

What is the price on this one that DJNY has linked, and how much does the 100mW actually output? Is it extremely overspec, like 200mW?

Well, I just got a reply from Gray and the upgraded models of the titanium PL-A are still being manufactured and aren't in stock yet:cryyy:, so I'll have to study the site some more before deciding if there's another model I'd be interested in for the group buy.

i believe i got the last of the titanium liteA units...i love this laser couldnt imagine them upgrading off this laser its a beast...this 150mw unit pks. at 275mw..ive had it in pool for hours fooling around...may have to pickup new version just to compare... wouldnt have anything but a titanium host...

DAMN YOU PATRICK--now I have to choose between that one and another,,,,sounds too sweet!!!

You read what he says about it??? Impartial review--WAY overspec and waterproof TITANIUM----No more thna 20 units are going to be allowed for this GB.

We can all build nice lasers of other nms but it would be hard to make a 532nm as nice as these....

This GB may be a one time thing and if you want one like Patrick got NOW is the time to get one the list. Once we hit 10 units this will close in 48hrs so that will be the end. All those on the list---plz get your funds ready in case it ends soon. Many on the list are anxious to get them so any who cant do this will be left out, sorry that only fair to the others. ,,,,<(*_*)>....
