So I would only get 80mW out of my diode?

When I get the parts for the prototype, which should be within a week, I will assemble and test that. Assuming all is well (which it had F**king better be :p ) I will then ask for money for all of these orders. Once all that is collected, I can order the parts. I am assuming ~2 weeks for them to arrive. Then I assemble all these, under a week. Then, I post them all to my US hub, who sends them off to you! That makes about 6 weeks till they are at the US hub to ship.

man, that sounds like a much longer time than it had before  i hope kenom doesnt get angry

Why is postage $10 AUD for such a small item?

Or are you sending them all to the US?

Even if they are being shipped from the US $10 is still insane when they can be posted for $1.50 to nearly every country.

Can you explain?

Re: GB feeler - Tiny LD driver $4, 2 for $9.50 shi

(can't give you the link... yet)

But the USPS (dot gov) site gives (in US dollars) the rates for every country (look near the bottom for first class mail rates).

It's hard to find an overseas location that cost just $1.50 to mail anything 1oz or so.

And some places, like Australia and Japan, to name a few, cost quite a bit more.

1oz from the US to Australia in a large envelope comes to the insane price of $1.07, add a few cents to cover the envelope and we are easily under $1.50

Calculate it yourself

Why do international people have to be ripped off with postage prices? It does not cost $10 to send so why insist on charging $10?

Re: GB feeler - Tiny LD driver $4, 2 for $9.50 shi

Man I'm not ripping anyone off.
I live in Australia. It costs me $10 to send almost anything short of a letter, inside australia. And more outside. If you really want I can ship even the Australian orders to the US and have my distribution hub send them back here.

Also, you can easily run your diode over 130mA or 80mW in CW. It's just technically not CW anymore... lol. People have pushed them to 600mA with TEC.

I feel a safe level is 250mA. But it's up to you.

Can you throw one in a envelope?

Ill happily pay $3 for postage

For $1.50 in stamps you can post up to 250g of stuff Australia wide in a envelope aslong as it doesn't exceed 20mm in thickness. If you need to post larger things there are 500gm pre-paid bags for $5.30 and for $9.30 there are 3kg bags.

Hey, Bluefusion,

That sounds so convoluted. Send it to the US just to have it sent back ;D

What ever works.

I'll bet it would make an interesting graph, driving a LD beyond MFG spec's.
Sort of like over clocking a CPU. Keep the temp. down and you may survive.

Risk management for laser diodes ;D
If nobody has done life cycle study (w/heat), it's more or less a matter of risk ($).
