Re: FEELER: CNI rare/special wavelength <5mw pointer GB, low prices!

for the derailing thing that's not what I meant I just didn't want us to continue on with it, but that was ok I just didn't want it to keep going.
Also, that second part with shipping, then le hap can you ask? I've asked a million questions I'm gonna take a little break XD

Yes OK understood.
To the point, would like to get a handle on actual savings. GBs are not so simple or easy---is a lot of work.

Oh I'm sure they're not intending on it being over 5mW, but these are DPSS units and something as simple as warming it up will change the power output. They'd need to add additional power-control circuitry to really force it to 5mW. I'm guessing that these will just be the 5mW-rated versions and that their power can fluctuate depending on conditions. Just saying that you might get lucky with one that over-delivers.

Good point!

Decided to do some homework:
A 589nm, 5mW on Dragon lasers site---price is $319.99 + $10 shipping for 10-15 day delivery and $18 for Express shipping 8-15 day.
So going with the cheaper cost shipping that is $329.99 delivered directly to end users.

Same CNI 589, 5mW from CNI is $280 with 10 piece discount + shipping + duty + reshipping which is probably $15 shipping+ $9 duty + $9 Priority Mail with signature confirmation of delivery -- that is $313 each without any customs brokers fees, so could be a little higher--anyway savings of $17 compared to Dragon. Then there is the issue of being able to get 10X the output, 50mW for just $100 more from Dragon Lasers
Not sure if it makes sense all the work involved for the little bit saved per 589nm laser.
Maybe is idea good only on wavelengths that nobody else resells commonly, 510, 561 or any other wavelengths people are interested in that CNI is willing to produce if CNI will give a discount based on a combined order of 10 pieces not 10 pieces per wavelength.

Has anyone asked Dragon Lasers if they would give a 589nm, 5mW GB 10 piece price? Might be worth asking about them for a 10 piece price on the 5mW and the 50mw, 589nm + envisioning shipping to each individual particpant directly from a list provided with the order and payment for same.

Just a thought---have seen a lot of CNI GBs that fell through but never have seen a Dragon Lasers GB even attempted.

I can ask CNI how much they would charge for 10 piece GLP 561, yes?

go for it. tell them about the 260$ that was quoted to me for one laser if you want.

did you ask about the possibility of a quantity discount? if not thats fine but for 271$ each shipped from CNI, for a wavelength only 2 people have in handheld form right now, thats pretty good. shipping within the US cant be that bad if the group buy members are all within the us. so at a max 290$ i'm gonna say, even so its not that bad, and its probably much less than that.

Well, that's good news. Not an amazing discount but it was 260 in the first place so 5% is just fine with me. Wow, it's crazy just to be talking about buying a laser with such a weird wavelength, and for well under 300$... I tell you, we saw power become cheaper, now we are seeing color get cheaper. Imagine what it will be like 3 or 4 years from now looking at this thread. Now I think you have something to tell the members of that other group buy I see you started a month ago.

Yes, it is good news indeed! :)

I think you should start a list on the OP of the people who are interested so you can get an overview of who is willing to purchase it(Start a new GB). $260 ain't too bad for a pretty rare DPSS wavelength.

Re: GB CNI rare/special wavelength pointers and other stuff.

Ok Micheal has made a list of the 561/473 & 589 pointers. We need to see who is interested in which & we'll go from there.

They are proposing to get some <5 mW pointers of wavelengths unavailable form anywhere else from CNI--see: Green laser, Blue laser, Infra Red laser, IR laser, UV DPSS laser.

"Changchun New Industries Optoelectronics Tech. Co., Ltd. (CNI), founded in 1996, is the largest manufacturer and supplier of diode pumped all-solid-state lasers (DPSSL) in China. CNI produces CW, modulated and Q-switched laser modules at different wavelength, including UV, visible and Infrared. These lasers are widely used for industrial instrumentation applications in holography, biomedical, fluorescence, reprographics, laser trapping, interferometry, semiconductor inspection, laser show and material processing. In addition, CNI has the capability of laser device design, optical coating, device fabrication, component assembly and system integration. CNI is ISO-9001, FDA, CE, RoHS and JQA certified."
