So far it looks like we have two committed buyers, Jimmy and another member who PMed me. I would like to get another buyer but the order can go through even without.

I tried to ignore this thread, but failed miserably!
I do wish these were a bit higher power, but 561nm doesn't come around everyday.

Make that 3, with BruceMir on the list! Looks like we are good to go. CNI has been emailed. If anybody else is interested, speak now or forever hold your peace!

I'm with you BowtieGuy...yeah I wish the power output would be higher but this is a rare change to add another WL to our spectra. I fully expect these units to be finicky...but dammit it's 561nm!!

actually....oddly I wish I had enough money for one of these, but since I have the labby I should pass...but I do need a new driver for my PGL-C 447 1.1W. last I heard from CNI they were 30 bucks or something. as much as I'd like a pointer, mind if I piggy back and order my driver thru you guys if you're gonna place an order?

this was originally a feeler for 589nm and 473nm pointers... beautiful yellow and sky blue lasers... now its a vomit green laser group buy XD

when you get the package; if you, by some sort of amazing miracle, get more lasers than you ordered, i call dibs on one!!!

Thanks for taking the initiative Styro. I know I haven't been around for a while but after seeing the prices on this thread I couldn't pass the opportunity.

Now if only CNI sold >5mW lasers to the US... I've had an odd craving for 671nm. It just seems like a fascinating color. I guess I'll try out 685nm and if I like it then I'll look more into 671nm. Anyone know of any places that sell 671nm in a pointer?

It feels good to be back. I have some ideas for interesting things to build

Now I just have to find the time to build them..!

CNI does 671nm in a pointer. Last quote I got from them was $280 I believe a year ago :yh:

and its probably way less now, if the 561 pointers were any indication.

Most likely. It's really interesting to see all the wavelengths available in pointer form these days! With enough money, you could easily make a pretty complete rainbow

Tracking this his GB thread somehow has push me into thinking I really need a new CNI laser.

I caught myself thinking about rationalizing the purchase of one of the GLP 561nm < 5mW pens even though it has almost no runtime and brazed host construction is not nearly as nice as in any of their other hand held hosts. lol

To counter this GB syndrome generated desire .
I decided I want a 3W or 4W 589nm however will settle for a MGL-N-589/800mW DPSS 589nm yellow laser--if not too much additional expense best would be 1400mW 589nm. Have asked CNI for a price on both an 800mW MGL-N-589/800mW and a 1400mW , MGL-W-589/1400mW DPSS 589nm Yellow Laser.

Reason for 1400mW----- beam of 589nm equal to brightness of an 800mW, 532nm requires 1400mW of 589nm output--labby is only way ---hand held unit is limited to 100mW, 589nm CW

Will see what's what, as soon as....

CNI replied to my email, and asked whether the pointers are for research or personal use. I told them personal, and if that screws up things for whatever reason we may have to use somebody else as our CNI ordering spokesperson. Alex??

Those high powered 589nm units will not be cheap!! I'm curious as to if there is any pumping configuration to get sodium vapor to lase at 589nm. Would be fun to try assuming it is even possible!

I got a quote back and they want $330 per piece. Ahhh!!

Who all here has the quotes for $260? I can still handle payments and whatnot, but at least we can get orders put through at the right price if we have someone else do the CNI corresponding.

Was that other quote for a <2mW or a 5mW 561nm pointer?

nope, 5mW 561nm pointer, 260$.

Emailed them back, we will see what they say! I think one of the laws of the laser hobby is that ordering exotic units from CNI requires persistence and anguish, as to keep the member base exclusive.
