Hello everybody! What would you say to getting a rare wavelength?

Yep, 561nm. To my knowledge, only aryntha and RHD have these (though RHD's is rated 556nm when his tests show it's not). I've been dying to get one of these myself, I think it would certainly make an interesting color to add.

This order will be in glenn's (scopeguy20) hands much more than mine. After all, he's dealt with CNI GB's before.

Now comes to price... After talking with glenn, currently it's looking like $700 shipped for a 5mW, fully built PGL-III-A laser (PGL-III-C shouldn't be too far off for those who like bulkier hosts). The inside module looks around $600 shipped, though I think that isn't quite correct... it should be less. Over the summer I've received a quote at less than 2/3 that (excluding shipping)... so he's working on that. These are roughly the prices of a single-order!

Note that I personally don't have the quantity prices, like I mentioned glenn is working with CNI.

I think we're probably going to need 6 buyers to drive the price down a bit. I'm just looking to see how many people are interested in buying an exotic wavelength; I'm ordering one regardless, why not reduce the price if possible?

And yes, he's okay with this thread. I wanted to be the messenger for this one

Wow, that yellow-green colour (561 nm) is magnificent! Is it seriously $700.00? What makes it cost that much?

561nm is a very rare color. I might get one but I am also in for another exotic color.
I want to see what the definite price is if more participants are joining in.

How is it a rare colour though? I'm sorry if I seem a bit n00by asking this, but can the producers not just replicate the diode?

Well there's little practical purpose for such a wavelength, coatings are different, alignment is different, etc. They all use the same diode, and same crystals. 808nm->Nd:YAG->1122nm->doubler (KTP I think)->561nm

Heh that's understandable, the price scares me a little bit. Based on how most GB's work, the prices will knock down ~$100

Don't count me down for one, but I would like to see the group prices before I decide.

Which one is the PGL-III-A host anyway? (2xCR2, right?)

Also, what kind of warranty?

Yes, the PGL-III-A is the 2xCR2.
I'm only guessing but I'd think 1 year? I think that's CNI's default.

First it Glenn Hand not Glenn's hands (J/King)

and second- that color is not used in much of anything- the onlyest reason we get some colors so cheap had NOTHING to do with laser hobbiests or wavelength jockies.

The first 445s were very expensive UNTIL Kasio ordered a gazillion to be made in S Korea ( for Nichia) and then shipped them to NYC so Kasio could send them back to China where the Kasio PJs are made------ so then some of us buy the PJs - harvest the 445 diodes and in some cases sell then to China laser builder/maker/sellers so they can send them back to the USA one more time. The Kasios are either not avaiklable or VERY expensive there--go figure ? UH?

Whew! that a lot of traveling for a little 5.6 mm diode.

Same with 405nm diodes before Blue ray was ever heard of 5 mW Violet pointers were around $140 EACH- and the only place selling them was outfits like Sunclan Lasers (iirc) I know this for a fact as I got one back then.
So until yellow lasers become a item that is mass produced ( very unlikely) they will remain about the most expensive 5 mW on the planet.

IIRC $700 is lower than what they went for a while back so...

...........AFAIK Scopeguy Glenn makes nothing on these .. at best he MAY get one free one or just a discounted one and nothing more except our respect which he has earned and deserves.

I saw Matt's(arthyna) yellow at SELEM 2011 and it was fricken awesome and so bright I was shocked to learn of its real output. Just like its close cousin 532 these yellows are eye senstitve for human vision. I had to settle for a ~400$ yellow HeNe at around 3 mW but since I got it in person from Dr Sam(without a PS btw)at SELEM, that made it a terrific deal in my mind. And Sam gives his personal lifetime warranty too.

Good words hak, glenn does deserve something special since he's doing the work on this.
And the yellow you mentioned, the 561nm or a 589nm?

Hey there fellows I'd be interested in joining in on this GB... Hopefully we can get the price down from $700 if we can get enough interest! 561nm would be a sweet addition to any serious laser enthusiasts collection :D I still need to get a few more wavelengths that's for sure, money is the only issue at this point...

its a MG 589nm I have ran it for hours- no batts-not rest cycle- but you are tethered to the ac outlets--lol also has a thinner beam than the dpss.:D

One company already sells a CNI 5mw 561nm laser pointer. They are Handy Laser located in Utah.

Why go through another middleman? Buying direct from CNI is faster.

Price is about the same might be a reason. Secondly if the laser doesn't work then you don't have to send it back to China, just Utah.
