Any people in this group buy who haven't shown J-mil some of that rep button love really ought to. This is far and above any responsibilities. Great group buyer leader no doubt!

I try every single time I open this thread, but I need to spread some more before I can give him more... he deserves a +50 for sure. :)

DL rushing these seems to fit. I did notice differences between the one I got in this GB and the one I got on my own. Not only did the threads have no lube, but the tail cap on this one has a recessed button.

The module is closer to the front of the host on this one too. Looking into the aperture, the module is maybe a 1/4in from the front of the host. The other is closer to 1/2in from the front of the host.

These are just some things I've noticed, so far no apparent issues.

I too wish I could pile on the rep!

Thanks everyone. I haven't made the time to work on these yet but will later tonight. I will take some before and after pics as well for all you who are curious. For those of you who already received yours you would do well to do a similar job on your threads before a catastrophe happens.

These should go out tomorrow before the noon deadline. I am going to do the same random LPM of these five and then box them up.

Flutterpie- your payment was received today as well, yours will be coming with the BE included in the same box. Had to upgrade the box size a little, no biggie though.

RayJay- I will be converting yours tonight into a flashlight and hopefully it will be ready for shipment by tomorrow as well.

Last 5 just arrived

Fantastic Jeff! Glad to see they all made it.
About the rough tail cap threads, if your fix seems to work, you can try it on mine also. I've got some thread lube that I'll also add when I receive it. :)

:thanks: again for all you've done, it's been a great GB! Actually 2 GB's for me. I keep telling myself - "must stop to let wallet recover"!

PS - How does everyone like Jeff's packaging? Damn near bomb proof I would think.

Kap if you do end up getting it rehosted, please let me know who you have it done by and report the results. I'd be interested in having mine rehosted if the risk is minimal.

They're not too hard to take apart.... if you know how. If anyone wants theirs 'de-canned' I ca do it. Though I suggest you leave them alone.

Ok, did a mild "job" on each of the tail caps. Two of them have some "sticking points" about half way down, one with about three 15deg of 360 rotation and the other with four of these spots. None are terrible, just a little "hangy". The job was done first with a plastic rotary brush and then some fine jeweler's rouge. All oiled with Rem oil. Figured if it's good enough for my guns it would be good enough for the tail caps. All of them now are much smoother and all the big burrs gone. On the two with the sticky points I think I would use some jewelers rouge on the threads and just screw it in and out multiple times until it gets where you want it, i didn't want to take them all the way down to perfect in case something happened. What that something might be I am not sure but I didn't want to mess with them to any extreme. As far as I am concerned they would all pass muster by my standards now. Take that for what it is worth.

Now, as far as power goes....these are slightly lower than the first batch but still far over rated. Peaks were 98, 99, 101, 106, 107. All maintained within 90's for a good 25-39 seconds and the lowest any got on a longer run was 82mW towards the end.

The two below 100 would probably hit 100 on a different run on a different condition I bet.

Will do my very best to get these out tomorrow. I have family in town this weekend and things are a buzz here. I am still shooting for tomorrow.

I can't even get the "end barrel" off to attach a beam expander if I wanted to, lol. Looking in the aperture there is white potting compound all over the place that may or may not be in the threads that hold that end barrel on.

Do you know if the modules are press fit or screwed in, and from which end are they removable from?

I took mine off using a thick rubber band and some regular pliers. Just use something that wont scratch the front and grip it hard, it will come off. A piece of damp leather would work well too.

Front. I just redid my PGL-C and it's happily doing about 50-60 sometimes 70 pretty stable. Would love to put it in a custom host. Would likely run tons better.

Interesting. What's the disassembly process entail? Is it as simple as removing the end barrel and using a two-pin-wrench to unscrew the module out in one piece?

If it is that easy, even if I don't rehost it I've love to move the module forward 2-3mm as I can't use protected cells right now as the tailcap won't screw on if I do.

EDIT: Is it similar to the construction in your thread here: http://laserpointerforums.com/f40/disassembly-589nm-laser-pgl-iii-pic-heavy-86628.html

The only outward difference in hosts is that these 589's have a flared head and knurled body, where as the one in the thread above has a cylindrical body.

If it is similar I could just have someone bore out a huge block of aluminium and tap the hole for the retaining ring and lens disc. I'd love to convert this to a labby. You wouldn't happen to have dimensions for the module diameter and thread type/size would ya?

I haven't taken apart the yellow one specifically, but all the CNI lasers I've repaired so far use that as the basic layout. the green ones are a bit different as they use hybrid crystals generally, but otherwise its still similar. Even the pointers are similar, though press fit instead of retained for obvious reasons. I actually have thought to do a disassembly tutorial on them when I get mine. but I'm short on funding for the moment. Ive only got about 100 bucks, and It'll be a while until I have funds again. my credit has caught up with me. this may be my last laser for a long time. I'm actually going to sell alot of my stuff soon cuz I need the money more than my lasers.

All to receive a laser from me.

Flutterpie gets BE as well.

This looks correct to me......

Getting ready to box them up now.
