Hi, can i get a salvaged BR diode installed in the housing with leads (or wires) soldered?

GOOGLE!!!!!

thats where I got mine.

I salvaged and aixized the second BR, and this one goes to about 5mW on a 9v battery (rckstr 38mA driver)

Is this normal? I still cannot see the beam without fog, unless the beam is passing by my head.

How are you measuring the output ?

I bought 2

So what is the other one like? If you're lucky, it could be a good one.

Are you in this group buy? If not, it's too late for any orders. If yes, write Daedal, but salvaging usually costs a little extra.

Welcome back Senkat!
Hope all is well...

Daedal, I got my package! Now, all I need is the barrels from kenom.

Great to have you back senkat!

but lets not flood this thread :p

anyways, I am measuring it with my DIY LPM, and I can assure you it is accurate.

Is it because I am only feeding the beast 38mA? would my results just if I increased the mA by 6-10?

sorry for uberN00ber questions, I just haven't had any experience with Blu-rays...

Well, 6mA more wouldn't really be dangerous, maybe even 10.. But you can not be 100% sure.

As i said, i had one like yours and a good one, and after seeing the good one, i pushed the first one to 70mA to get any real brightness at all.

Unfortunatelly, during one of the tests at 70mA it suddenly dropped in output even lower, than it was before, and turned into a zombie. It's not really dead, but it's also not alive..

I can still see the beam with lots of fog, but it needs 220mA to do it right now. And it's probably <5mW at this current, so you can imagine how much it heats up.

But for some reason, it doesn't get any worse... I can reliably get the few mW of blue with 220-280mA of current. :)
The good one became the same during the first test, because i went to reposition it, and when i touched it i felt a shock, and the power dropped to 1/4 immediatelly.

From then on, i only use battery power for driving LDs. A PSU powering a driver provides a path to the ground for the ESD. I haven't lost a single LD ever since.

IgorT, I pushed it to 52mA, and it is going at 20mW right now!! Idont know if I should push it more....

I received my diode today! Now I just need to figure out how to make a laser driver, and get all the parts for one, as well as the Axiz module. But the diode is here, anyway. Thanks Daedal!
