I'm hoping to get in on another GB for BluRays if it ever happens again.  I'm a noob here & I'm trying to support my 13-year old son's interest in lasers.  He became interested in an instructables laser flashlight hack.  Bought an AixiZ module & a busted DVD burner.  Extracted the diodes from the burner & tested the polarity, but haven't soldered them into the module yet.  I think if I could buy a BluRay already in the module, that would be ideal.  I'd also need advice on how to power it.

Looking forward to learning the basics here.  After we browse a bit, I might sign my son on for his own account so he can ask questions (he has a ton of them).  Let me know the best way to procede.

Yea i am only 14 and i have one of these built. it is on ebay right now. just read in the mod section and you will find plenty of info in how to build one of these.
i built this driver http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1185701612/0#0 and used a 9V battery. once you get it all soldered up just turn up the pot until it starts lasing and you got a blu-ray. Read around and you will will find plenty of friendly people and info.

good luck to you and your son,
Mitch

I posted on this idea of red and blu at the same time. Limit your current to about 35 mA for each.

hmm. I ordered one a while ago and I received an email saying that it was shipped 11 days ago. What was the expected time for it to arrive at my house? I ordered the diode without the sled and with the kit.

The shipping notice from Google, until recently, was mandatory before I could get the funds out of the account... and without the funds out I cannot buy the actual items from the supplier.

When they ship out of here, you will get a notice from USPS directly with the tracking number.

The diodes should be here in a week's time, and after that it would be a matter of just a few days before you have them :)

Sawt, the glass collimators, which is what I am using, do not accept the silver focus ring.

This is for the ones with plastic collimators and the rings.

The glass collimators have to be special ordered from AixiZ

Correct except they no longer come with the rings. The ones from DX do... :)

The dx ones looks and feel exactly the same as the aixiz ones. Dunno about the acrylic lens but probably the same company manufactures them. Aixiz quoted me $3 extra for the glass collimating lenses but I am not sure how much others are getting them at.

Thanks! That's what i was looking for.. How big is this blob in your picture?

I know they have different focal lengths, but how small (thin) can you make the beam? Or the dot?

Is there any point in doing this? If you get two separate beams i mean..
