The problem with putting together a group buy of this caliber is that there is no easy source for just the diodes. You HAVE to extract the diode from the sled. If you want someone to do that for you it's going to cost additional to the existing cost of the drive. I will do it for $40 in an aixiz module.

Just so you know, extracting open cans from the "famous" 20x burner (I can't remember the name right now!) is very easy, you just scrape off the glue around the diode and the laser diode just comes out.

Yes, we all know about TheMonk (he sold me a short open can and a long open can diode) he's a great seller but he can't get dozens of sleds to sell them at a slow rate, that's why we need a GB, someone who gets in contact with the supplier and gets the sleds (diodes alone would be better of course) at a descent price. (cheaper than what we get the DVD burners for right now if that person gets sleds, or not too expensive if they're the diodes alone)

yea I contacted some suppliers through madeinchina.com a while ago. I just have so much stuff to do now, I will organize that GB sometime in the future. CLARIFICATION: I didnt contact for the actual diode, its the sled assembly. comes out cheaper

I have a GB feeler which also includes long open cans in this thread: "Feeler: GB/DIY RED's and Blu-ray's". Only if the demand is high enough, I will do it.
