Re: Community Focus Knob - Group Buy - COLLECTING PAYMENTS!

I for one do NOT think there is any real problem. The GB should proceed as planned. In all seriousness, allowing people to buy 5 was a favor by me because I am going to be the one distributing this. I cannot possible ship out 100 packages of 1-2-5 etc etc. thats too much of my time. PLEASE REMEMBER this is a GB, not a Sale...I make no profit from this at all. I cannot possibly devote an entire week or more organizing and shipping out packages. When we are talking about $150 lasers, its not that big of a deal, but then for some reason $30 for 5 focus adapters suddenly become a risky purchase?? Most, if not all, of the members here have several lasers, and will continue to acquire more lasers. Who here doesnt have random stuff lying around like extra lenses and extra aixiz modules? these adpaters are just like those items, accessories which we have lying around that can be used on builds whenever we build/buy them.

all i can say is this, we've already dropped the quantity needed to 5. If you really cant afford that then wait till someone sells you their extra. Its that simple.

Sorry stressful day. Head gaskets are a biotch to change...

anyways so far we are halfway through with the required number to place the order.

Agreed ^ 100%

In fact, you're being pretty nice about this Stevie. I think it is fairly disrespectful for anyone to be "bargaining" the qty amount here. We're talking about $30 now. If everyone bought even our lower limit of 5, that would suck for you. That would mean 40 packages to ship here. There's zero profit worked into these numbers (in fact really we haven't even factored in your time, so it's already a loss situation here). So you're really donating your time to make this work. Shipping 40 packages blows. Hopefully, it's more like 15 or 20 max.

But anyway, as far as I'm concerned, 5, 10, or a multiple of 10. That's it. We've all been in tight financial positions from time to time. If this is your time, then don't get in on the groupbuy ;)

Re: Community Focus Knob - Group Buy - COLLECTING PAYMENTS!

Ok guys, in preparation for this GB, i placed an order with USPS to deliver 40 small boxes so i can ship out the focus adapters. thats alot of damn cardboard. It takes them about 10 days to get it to me. I really dont want to have to do more than that. cmon guys im not superman... folding, labeling, stuffing, wrapping...theres alot of crap involved when shipping out a package. selling 4 lasers took about 35 minutes to pack and seal. imagine 40 packs of small focus adapters...

and Ben, im over my minutes until the 12th...no phone calls buddy. just tell me what you want.

The quanity is not my problem but i still do not know wether stevie will directly send out the knobs to the people bought them or he will send em out to some members of this forum that are located in different continents .,.

As of now, the plan is I ship directly to whoever is on the list for the GB. I shipped international before so its not a problem, and these items aren't restricted or anything so its no problem.

Thanks stevie , now everything is clear :)
rhd, you should wait until I posted what I mean before writing that I don't know how difficult it is to send everything out and I'm bargaining

I feel an urge to become defensive here. I wasn't bargaining about amounts (and I don't think anyone was). I was working on the understanding that you were designing this to get it onto as many lasers as possible as a sort of a forum solidarity thing and I was trying to aid that process with my suggestion on how people could access them in smaller quantities. This would also get more people involved and help to bring this project to life as well as bringing the forum together.

I understand it's too ambitious at this stage, but I was trying to help. I don't see any disrespect in that.

Hey,

I probably skimmed the thread too quickly - I was behind by a few pages ;)
And Jai - my comment wasn't aimed at your comment at all. In honesty, it was a response to the comment that we should have stopped the GB.

Anyway, no worries.

Oh, haha. Alright then. Group buys probably should be called off or delayed as soon as there's a problem emergent, but I think Machro misunderstood.

Nothing to worry about! We're not going to lose the thread a second time! :D

Re: Community Focus Knob - Group Buy - 90% FULL!

Hey all,

eMachineShop released a new version of their software today, that had two implications (both A-OK) for our build. However, a minor revision to the design was required. The OP photo and zip file of our CAD layout both reflect the REVISED design now.

Changes:
- Some thicknesses of the metal around the lens threads had to be increased (by fractions of a mm, we were close as it was, but the new software decided that the metal needed to be thicker in order to make machining easier on them :p)
- The error we WERE getting before (regarding thread length) really WAS a software bug, and they've fixed it! The design now renders/prices entirely error free! (once I fixed the note above)

All around, pretty good news :) It only took me 10 minutes to revise the design, and I think the visual look of the knob is basically unchanged.

Payment sent. There's only a few left unspoken for for anyone who's sitting on the fence.

Yep! Ed said it folks. Only 20 more to go. Depending on the success of this batch + if I have the free time, there might OR might not be a second run. You never might have the chance to grab one of these focus adapters at this incredible price.

Since we have the required amount for the order to be placed...once all the payments are made and after the 24 hour review period, I will place the order. Since there are 20 left available and it takes 24 days for me to receive it, that is the time frame to place your orders and pay. If these are not taken then I will speak with rhd about what to do with them.

Re: Community Focus Knob - Group Buy - 90% FULL!

I'm sure those 20 will get spoken for in the 24 days no problem.

Once all of the payments (for the 180 we're at now) are in, I'm going to put a big bold notice on the OP suggesting that everyone take the next 24 hours to review the design one last time. I would hope that everyone who participated in the groupbuy would want to give the design their once over, once more (I know I would, if I invested money in something!). After that 24 hours "last check" period, stevie will push the big red point-of-no-return button, and order our parts :)

But I can't stress enough, that everyone should take it upon themselves to take a look at the final design. We shouldn't presume that all of the other people in the GB have done so - I think everyone personally should give it a once over. Even though our design is going through their analyzer flawlessly now, every extra set of eyes is that much additional confidence we can all have in the design!

Plus, it will let Stevie and I sleep better at night for those 24 days. If anything were wrong with the design, I know we'd both feel like crud. So, please take one final glance once we hit that 24 hour period :)
