Re: CNI PGL-V-H-532 500mW Feeler.

UPDATE: new price quotation of $215. I'm looking to get it down to $200.

I'll buy one if they are complete ready to go plug and play units

Re: CNI PGL-V-H-532 500mW Feeler.

I have had one of these units 100mW ( Did 150 ish mW ) - It did need a external 5V Source for its analogue modulation -

unless you specify no modulation .

Re: CNI PGL-V-H-532 500mW Feeler.

Anybody know what kind of DPSS it is? Linear, L-fold, side/end pumped etc. I'd assume linear end pumped due to it's size.

I'm specifically looking for how small of a dot it can be focused to. If anybody knows I might be on board for one. :yh:

I'll get back to these questions once I'm out of school at 3:30PM my time.

The one I had was bonded crystal based - the whole front part of the module could be removed leaving the diode/crystals all mounted on each other

its the standard end pumped design , its pretty simple .

For the CNI PGL-V-H-532 500mW? I don't see it being anything other than linear end pumped - for one there isn't enough space in a head that size for anything else, plus there's no reason to do L-Fold or side pumped here - I'd guess at a 3-4W pump at most, although really it could probably be as low as 2W for 500mW output @ 532nm, probably under driven if it's 3-4W. Probably aren't even many corrective optics in there, if any - maybe a FAC lens on the diode.

You can calculate the beam waist if you know the FL of your focusing optic, the initial beam diameter and the wavelength you are using. There are beam waist calculators online. That is of course for a Gaussian beam, but it should give you a close enough answer.

Yeah, that's what I would have thought.

Ahh pretty much what I assumed.

Sorry guys, I just can't justify buying a short cavity laser right now. Sorry. :undecided:

Build your own side pumped L-Fold :D

I would, but I don't have a CNC machine, mill, or lathe.

Even if I did it'd probably perform terribly because I can't find a good TEC controller for the life of me, short of spending several hundred dollars.

Now back on topic, since a 10% discount isn't really worth it, you might consider expanding the GB to PL to get a larger discount. it seems like they're less about handhelds and more about labbies and projectors.

Nah, this is going to be a small group buy. The point is getting the lasers without one person paying the horrible shipping and banking fees. If we get 4 or 5 buyers, and everyone splits the fees, it'll work out to like $250 per laser, so that's what I'm going for. If the GB gets really big, then someone else can take over since I'm not up for all the work right now.

Edit: remember CNI is known for being 1.5x spec, so think of these as 750mW lasers. Of course, that's not guarenteed, but it's likely, and its even possible that they are close to 1W.

Oh yeah, that's right. CNI has atrocious shipping fees.

You could also try to find a cheap Chinese reshipper. Might bring down the cost a bit, though it's unlikely with the reshipping fees.
That could be a way of getting handhelds into the US though.

Yeah, goldenstar laser has the same thing for $250+40 shipping, so if we get enough buyers here (only a few) we can definitely get a very low cost. I was thinking 3-4 maybe 5 would be good.

Re: CNI PGL-V-H-532 500mW Feeler.

UPDATE: confirmation from CNI that these will be plug and play, ready to go. The shipping price for 4-5 will be $90, and spread out over 5 people that's not much, so we're looking great here! Just need 2 or 3 more people. Please note, if there are too many people, I won't be able to do this since it's a lot of work, so be aware of that. I have a feeling we won't go past 5 people(including me), but it might get iffy if we get past that.

So Michael, to clarify 200$ for the laser and 90$ split between buyers for shipping, yes?
