I have a real hard time believing customs LPM any lasers at all. If they're seizing high-power lasers they probably use other criteria (size, a blacklistof manufacturers, who knows).

Please ask them what happens if customs seize the lasers anyways.

We have a reply! Anything else I should ask?

Dear Drake Anthony,

Thanks for your email, it is my great honor to provide you service.
The filter is installed inside the aperture cap, it is removable.
After adding the filter, the output power will be less than 5mW, so we will make the
warning labels with less than 5mW.
We have no method once lasers taken by Customs.
Please let me know your opinion on the laser.

Please contact me without any hesitation if you need any help.

So it's a risk now... seized lasers= direct loss of $$$. I like the filter idea though, all of the papers need to marked as such (<5mW). Also, how do they intend for us to remove the filter once we have it?

So to remove the filter, I think this is all we'll have to do. The wider part is threaded onto the rest of the body. Just put it back on after removing the filter.

Ask CNI if they will reship/refund our lasers if they get seized by customs. The risk is very high if they do not offer some kind of safety netting for us...

I removed you from my list...don't worry if you still show up in the original post for a while.

As for customs seizures, I asked about what CNI would do. Looks like we would be SOL in the unlucky event they got seized. Here is the whole email:

They are very unlikely to do that .A company can't be expected to cover customs taking it .I've lost lasers to customs more than once big $ ,that's why I didn't go for the GB, I ending up paying twice the cost but at least I got it .Putting broken torch or torch etc on the shipping slip or 5mW sticker on etc is no guarantee at all I know this .
.Customs I doubt test the output of the laser ,but customs arnt stupid either they go by size ,experience or seen the same one so they know whether its 5 mW or not .Luck of the draw win some lose some.Sorry hwang21 they may do,but i doubt it and if you read what was written by the new organizer that lasers being seized by customs arnt covered in the sale.
Group buy great on price but with any high powered laser you chase it being taken. Whether its a group buy or not.

PS i also +1 styropyro for his efforts a lot of work organizing and taking over from WBS

Has anyone ever had a CNI laser seized? CNI doesn't seem to be on the FDA's blacklist

I'm out as well, can't take any chances with this kind of money. I only entered the GB because it had been said that CNI had the FDA numbers/legal paperwork to export these to the US without risk.

Thanks for your work, styro. I'm sorry if I caused any trouble.

We need to set a deadline for everybody to say no. After that there should be a deadline for payments. I've been ready to pay since sometime in September.

I've been in them before. The initiator stayed until the end though. There wasn't any of this customs shenanigans either. I personally think they'll come through just fine. $650 is quite a bit of money for those getting a yellow one though.

I'm gonna send a PM to everybody on the list to make a final confirmation. I'll wait three days, email CNI for a final quote, and then start collecting payments. SOund good everybody? I want to get this on the road.

Well so far we only have 7 people committed to the 589nm and one of those is only committing if his laser is the one that tips the 10 goal. We've had 5 people drop their 589nm spots.
